Kicker Head Issues

I hate to pile on the guy but it is well known on campus he shows up at frat parties on game days before games. I have not heard if he attended one yesterday but maybe he needs to party a little less and focus on games.
Looks like the truth is going to start coming out about the guy's lack of prep.

We have had some snap and hold issues as well. Sometimes it is just the kicker, but often times there is more to it.

There's an app for that.

Seriously, there's a protocol for helping athletes going through a rough mental patch. It involves what's called "performance visualization" or "sports visualization." Folks aren't going to like the comparison, but it's pretty much what Butch used to mean when he'd talk about "mental reps."

And it actually works most of the time to straighten a fella's head out.

Go Vols!

The canniVols are out in force again.
Even the best, including, pro kickers have times when they go THUD instead of BOOM.
Our kicker has been very good until last night. He'll bounce back. But the canniVols will insist he should be deported to Kent State,
Kennesaw State, or the DPRK.

Ur name fits you. The kid has been money all year, and he’s a freshman. He’ll be alright.
He is a freshman, however he has developed a tendency to hook his kicks from the right side of the field and push the ball from the left side of the field. This is a sign of a mechanical error in his set up and follow through. We need a kicker who can make kicks from at least 50 yards.

last night one of analysts remarked that the snap was high causing the holder to raise his knee up and throwing off the timing....did anyone else catch that or go back to look at that attempt? I would but frankly I don't know crap about kicking

I know a thing or two about iffy kickers. I’m gonna write this off as a bad stretch between the Bama and Kentucky games.

Concerning, though, that the misses are happening at home.

I mean you hate to pile on yet here you are. There really is no need for this. Unless you are implying he is showing up drunk to kick footballs. If that is the case (highly doubtful) then that would be on his coaches for allowing it. I am gonna add that I don't personally see ECK allowing that behavior or anyone else on staff.

There is 0% chance this is even true. Typical troll making troll posts.

You guys are right. I was told that by a Kappa Sig but probably should not have shared it based on second hand knowledge. It was irresponsible and I apologize.

Just because I don't want to be completely negative about it ....

I think we can all agree that Jeff Hall (1995-1998) had a good career as a place kicker at Tennessee. He was one of the best clutch kickers we have had. He once went 1-4 on field goal attempts in a game at South Carolina in 1996, and all 3 missed attempts were from less than 45 yards away. He obviously bounced back strong from it.

Whether the rumor is true or not is only relevant if he's showing up blasted to kick. To my knowledge, that has never been reported. Look, college kids will do college kid things. It's part of the growing up process. When it comes to kicking, his issue hasn't been with depth. It has been with accuracy. All kickers struggle with this at times and go through this. The mentally tough ones fight out of it. I hope Max does and I am cheering for him. In his defense, some of the snaps and pre-snap things were off for him last night and that will definitely have an impact on a kicker.

Special teams is where you win the close games but everyone has off nights . If you constantly are asking your kicker to get you points from 45+ yards and he misses the high pressure ones you also have to look at why we are asking him to get us point from so far back . It’s not just our kicker that is having a rough time right now . I’m just hope we can flip the switch and it all comes together for us . Georgia would be a great game to start and finish the season in the playoffs
