Kiffin and USC are about to dominate the nation. He pulled in an amazing class in 2 weeks.
Barring NCAA sanctions Kiffin is going to make Carrols time at USC look like childs play. It is going to make me sick knowing it COULD have been us.
With all due respect, you defeated the point of your post with your own question. What has Kiffin done to get all of these great jobs?
Kiffin will only be successful if he surrounds himself with much brighter coaches than him. He's not a good field general and his play-calling and decision-making is very suspect. Chaney bailed him out with Crompton last year and his daddy bailed him out quite a bit too. With all due respect, you defeated the point of your post with your own question.
Why is he getting these jobs? Because people who hire football coaches think Kiffin is a superstar coach in the making. I did. Still do. I hate that it won't be at UT and I'm still a little bitter that he left, but the fact is many of us would've done the same to land our dream job.
I think that Kiffin was probably no more than a 5 year guy here before USC or the NFL came calling, but I think he would have rebuilt this program into a juggernaut in those 5 years.
On the other hand, I think Dooley has only gotten the jobs he has because his father won a NC . If his name was Derek Smith, he'd be far more likely to be coaching at Carson Newman than in Knoxville. I don't get the same sense with Kiffin.
I stand ready and eager to eat crow on Dooley and Kiffin. But I doubt I'll ever have to.
Why? If the Copper Cellar hires a line cook from a McDonald's with a health score of 50 to be their head chef, I know it's a bad move and the place is going to suck for some time. Same principle at work here.
