Kiffin to LSU (or Houston or...)

I missed a point. SC was loaded with 5* talent when Kiff took the SC job. The Vols were a mess when Butch took over. Not really a fair comparison. Yes it was 30 over 3 years. That's why Kiff snuck in a class of 30 in 2011. The SC program was head and shoulders better at the time.

Agree and as for the post you quoted, considerimg attrition you can "insert team here" with "insert coach here". Happens everywhere.

Didn't see another thread about this but merge if if I missed it. I Just got a bleacher report alert saying Lane Kiffin will interview at Houston after the SEC championship game.

The LSU story always seemed like a major stretch. If you're Kiffin, why would you be discussing a lateral move when you haven't even had to opportunity to interview for any of the open head coaching positions?

I thought they would go after him all along. If anyone could give him another chance Houston would be a start.

Agree and him to Oregon is a major stretch also. No way Nike would have him as a HC. They will go big I think.

Yeah could be a nice set up with the big booster they have. It will either end in disaster or be a good hire, no inbetween with Kiffin.

Nick Saban asked if OC Lane Kiffin is ready to be a head coach again. "Absolutely." Saban added that Kiffin didn't get enough credit for the work he did as a head coach at Tennessee and USC. Also said that Kiffin has shown coaching maturity by adapting and changing within his offense to fit his players' talents, especially with three different starting QBs in three years at Alabama.
Saban is endorsing Lane as a HC candidate. An advantage for Lane is there is no buyout to pay to hire him. And the hiring school might be able to get him soon. I think Saban and Lane already have Sark prepared to take over.

I don't understand the logic of Sark staying. Perhaps through the Playoffs, but after that wouldn't he follow his old bud Joey to Houston?

One of the best OC jobs in the country -- pays great, working for one of the best HCs, team loaded with player & coaching staff talent, winning championships frequently versus working for Joey at UH. Lemme see, which one of these would be better for enhancing my resume and getting my career back on the upswing? Besides, Lane would likely be HC/OC at UH.

Agree, the talent was there when Kiffin arrived but you’re discounting the impact of ‘AA’s “Free Agency w/o having to sit” and subsequent transfers and overlooking 2011 critical losses (to injury) of the four aforementioned star players.
Agree, Dooley had run the team into the ground but it was not devoid of talent nor did Jones lose talented players to “Free Agency” his first yr, or his top four offensive threats in yr two, or face bowl bans and scholly limits. No, instead Jones with the talent inherited and that which he brought in proceeded to underachieve

We agree that to-date his reign as HC has been tumultuous however, (as previous stated) like him or not his talent (developing QB’s, game day preparedness, recruiting, and scheme) is inarguable

I think Houston or USF would be a good fit for Lane: great recruiting grounds but not super high expectations. I never believed the lateral move to LSU was a viable option: why leave Bama if you are just going to be an OC? Of course, stranger things have happened.

As with any coach, I'm sure Saban already has his guy lined up if Lane leaves.

As the Houston Chronicle first reported, Oklahoma offense coordinator Lincoln Riley is no longer in the running for the Houston head coaching job, according to a source. Houston's search is now focused on the two in-house candidates, defensive coordinator and interim head coach Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, as well as Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. The Cougars could have a coach named by the end of the week.
