As the Houston Chronicle first reported, Oklahoma offense coordinator Lincoln Riley is no longer in the running for the Houston head coaching job, according to a source. Houston's search is now focused on the two in-house candidates, defensive coordinator and interim head coach Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, as well as Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. The Cougars could have a coach named by the end of the week.

Apple white gets the bump Kiffin to USF

Kiffin to USF makes sense. Talent at USF and in the high schools around here tends to be on offensive side. There is still an upside to the program. University desperately needs to increase paid attendance.

Not to mention the Tampa nightlife.............Kiffin would be memorable in that environment

"Houston has decided on Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin to be its next football coach, pending a Thursday meeting at which school President Renu Khator will have to give the final OK, two people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. Those people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school had not yet announced the move."

Him leaving Bama won't break too many hearts around here, I suspect.

The assumption for Bammers is that Sark will step right in as OC, but I figured Sark might follow him to Houston. Wonder what the LSU perspective is now?

Yeah, that Coach O hire is not looking so good now. Who knows, maybe LSU would hire Sark? I am just glad we don't have to see Kiffin on the sideline for the Bammers or LSU next year.

I think Houston or USF would be a good fit for Lane: great recruiting grounds but not super high expectations. I never believed the lateral move to LSU was a viable option: why leave Bama if you are just going to be an OC? Of course, stranger things have happened.

As with any coach, I'm sure Saban already has his guy lined up if Lane leaves.
While I agree with your two teams being options for him, LSU OC is an option as well because I don't think Saban wants him around anymore. I actually think he leaves(run off) before the playoffs even starts.

Maybe Orgeron and Sark could be each other's sponsor. Sorry that was wrong.

The man on the my radio this morning said it didn't work out. Tweeted a picture of black smoke, which in Vatican-speak means they are still looking for the next pope. The implication being that Houston is still looking for the next coach. May end up being Kiffin but I dont think its settled yet.
