How do you know that?

because fisher is the longest tenured coach in the nfl. that just doesn't happen by accident. a coach that is that dedicated to his team isn't gonna just walk away from a place he has called home since they moved to tennessee. he has been in control of the oilers/titans since 1994. usc has mentioned fisher in every talk of hiring a head coach since back before pete carroll was even hired. fisher is all nfl. he loves the pro game and is gonna stay in the nfl until he retires or can't get a job anymore.

No, Pola accepting would have been stupid. Asking isn't. We had guys like Basilio talking seriously about Lovie Smith...glass houses, people.

Think about it.....coach the best rb in the nfl for more money or go to the collegiate level to a team that's on probation? Lane knew what he would say, what a hard decision. Lane is a moron, but this makes it worse. It's almost like he was taking a shot at the state of Tennessee with this.

Please tell me our fans aren't still so butthurt that they view the attempted hiring of a USC alum as a shot at UT...

Three of his four defensive coaches directly left NFL jobs to join his staff...and those guys weren't USC alumni. If UT tried to hire you away from the Oakland Raiders (wait a minute...James Cregg...there's another one) would you consider that "moronic"?

Poor example, I feel. For one, Cregg came with Kiffin. There's no coaching turnover in Tennessee, as Fisher is the longest tenured HC in the NFL as opposed to Oakland which is among the teams with the most turnover during the past 5 years. So Cregg could've been out of a job anyway with Cable taking over. Not to mention, the talent at Pola's disposal with CJ compared to the Raiders OL has no comparison. Pola has his work cut out for him, as opposed to Cregg who would've been in a tight spot. Their situations are completely different.

Also, I wouldn't say our fanbase is still butthurt, but lets not be so naive to think that Vol fans won't pass over the opportunity to take a shot at Kiffin whenever his name is associated with anything Tennessee football (professional, collegiate, or otherwise - hell, if he flunks out at USC and has to take over the Nashville Cats, people will still despise him).

You're right on the double standard, though, with guys on here wanting Gruden and Lovie Smith getting hired when they have current NFL jobs (or future opportunity for Gruden's case). But then again, USC fans thought they had legit shots at Jack Del Rio and Jeff Fisher (both USC alums). It's just the nature of fans.

But the key thing to me is their probation. The Vols weren't under probation when Basilio and all the other guys (who were really just pulling names out of hats, apparently) were reporting on possible candidates. This is the case for USC, so it's not really applicable to make a direct comparison.

And for the last time: Kiffin isn't stupid for picking up the phone and offering one of the best RB Coaches a job. He has to at least try, or he's not doing his job.

The stupid thing is asking him to step down from an NFL job to coach at the college level at a school that's on probation. That's what's stupid.

We are on our second NFL-to-college WR coach in under a year. And we haven't been relevant in quite some time. Not sure what the big deal is.

Kennedy Pola leaves Titans for USC | tennessean.com | The Tennessean

Titans running backs coach Kennedy Pola is leaving the team to accept a job as offensive coordinator at Southern Cal.

The move comes a week before the Titans begin training camp.
Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said Saturday morning he was informed of the move by Pola, and said he wasn't contacted throughout the process by USC head coach Lane Kiffin, formerly head coach of the Tennessee Vols.

Fisher hired Pola back in January. He said he plans to replace Pola by a coach already on the staff.

“I am very disappointed in Lane Kiffin’s approach to this,’’ Fisher said on Saturday. “Typically speaking when coaches are interested in hiring or discussing potential employment from coaches on respective staffs there is a courtesy call made from the head coach or athletic director indicating there is an interest in talking to the assistant.

“So I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism on behalf of Lane, to call me and leave me a voice mail after Kennedy had informed me he had taken the job. It is just a lack of professionalism.’

Kiffin trying to poach Titans running back coach | ProFootballTalk.com

Why Kiffin would ever dream Pola might take the enormous step down from NFL position coach to position coach at a college that is ineligible for the next two NCAA postseasons is beyond us, though Kiffin did spend two years working for an NFL owner who's seemingly lost his own sense of reality. So perhaps we shouldn't be all that surprised.
Looks like your thread ended up being the failure.

It appears to me what he's taking is the Titans' running backs' coach.

If you did't know it before you do now. Lane Kiffin is a low down dirty egg sucking dog and needs to be thrown in a roadside ditch.

It's not like he left the Titans as a position coach to be a position coach at USC. He is going to be the OC so this isn't that shocking. I would have been surprised had he left to be the RB's coach at SC though.

Nashville is the best city in the state ten times over. Hat is mad because his girlfriend probably found an elvis impersonator and ran away to Nashville.
Blaker, stick to lies about magic phones and intimidating Tyler Bray. Your attempts at humor are almost as pathetic as Trashville's attempt to pass itself off as a bigtime city.

Yay. Let's trash the whole state and fellate Kiffin. Fun fun fun.

When you're competing with Memphis and Chattanooga for top honors in the state, it's not saying much if you win it. Sorry if you disagree... and who is doing that to Kiffin?

I'm betting the OC title is just a formality...Kiffin will probably call plays with Pola basically replacing Todd McNair
