Any of you think that Kiffin's type of players will be somewhat different than the players at USC? I'm thinking that he will recruit more speed at receiver being that he's in the SEC and speed kills down here. Also I think he may get a more athletic QB. Not a spread QB but an athletic pocket passer.

If he's hoping to bring USC a couple thousand miles east I really have no problem with that, as I think USC would fair pretty well in the SEC. However, he is surrounded by influences from all over in the form of his coaching staff, and they all participate in the same recruiting meetings I'm sure.

Like I've wondered how many times Chaney has brought up Drew Brees.

I'm thinking about the QBs from USC. They aren't hit that often. I think the defenses that are down here would give a straight pro-style QB all kinds of problems down here.

For every Drew Brees there are dozens of players that size that can't get it done at this level. Brees is the exception rather than the rule. Kiffin is looking to make this an elite program sooner rather than later and with the deficiencies we already have recruiting-wise (not a good state talent-wise, having to go everywhere and recruit) we can't afford to take players that are not capable of competing at that level.

??? Peyton Manning had no trouble.

That's just dumb, dude.

I agree. We need to find a few QBs not just one golden boy. I don't personally like Heaps that much for our system. But I'm not the coach either. But we need at least two this year. And if one isn't Scroggins then we need a big time QB in the '11 class.

Exactly, just as Tebow is the exception rather than the rule. Outside of him, I don't see the spread being as successful in the SEC. A big, talented pro style quarterback with a good O-line can and will have great success in the SEC.

Defenses are a lot faster now too. Also which QB from USC is Manning good?

Defenses are not a lot faster now. Borrowing from KPT's point, pretty much every QB they've had over the past decade has been better than Ainge.

And defenses aren't that much faster. There are some players from those Bob Stoops UF defenses that are still making Pro Bowls.

And Alex Brown and Jevon Kearse were as good as any DE's we will be seeing this season. I guess Kearse played OLB a lot at Florida, though.

If defenses are faster, then they should have a better time containing the spread. It's all relative.

I think we Ainge is underrated by us as Vol fans. Matt Leinhart had a super team around him that any decent QB would have succeeded with. Carson Palmer was great. The jury is still out on Sanchez. He didn't perform well under pressure against Oregon St.. Don't know if that was just a bad game or if he is not good with a bit of pressure in his face. But we'll see.

Apparently Ainge's talent is underrated by NFL scouts and the Jets too since they drafted a USC player to be the future of their team. And any of the guys you mention would have fared similarly in the SEC. You're just wrong here....yet again.

Dude seriouly I'm not against Sanchez or the other Qbs. But Leinhart was so overrated. He had the perfect setup in college and in the NFL. I think if we were to give him Ainge's team as a senior then he would have gone in the same round as Ainge.

Peyton Manning played here a bit over ten years ago. You're acting like it was the 70's. Football hasn't changed all that much since the late 90s.

No friggin way. Ask anybody who knows anything about football whom they would rather have their senior years, Ainge or Leinart.

I didn't say who was better I just don't think he goes first round without all of the weapons he had around him.

as an aside for everyone, it's Leinart. And he would have brought us an SEC championship in 07. No doubt
