Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

I know most of you won’t believe me… but…. tonight I spoke with a friend who is a donor….and it turns out a large number of donors who give A LOT have been unhappy with Kellie and Jon….who have not been warm, remember donor names, etc. like Pat did. They have been complaining to DW. So, finally, DW talked with the players, who had nothing much good to say about Kellie and Jon.

It’s hard to believe because Kellie’s publicist persons is all smiles.
have a really hard time believing this. the players have been pretty vocal about their love for kellie, even after her firing.

if you seriously think the coach from marshall will be what we need you’re crazy. she has no experience recruiting top level players. what a sad hire if true.

I never said anything about a coach from Marshall. If that’s who DW chooses to hire, I ain’t gonna **** on it until I see how it plays.

If you can coach you can do it on any level, just need an assistant that can recruit. Heck after first year your style of ball will either entice recruits or turn them off, and that’s with any coach.

Firing Harper only to bring in a coach who has only coached D1 for one season makes no sense. We are Tennessee not Auburn.

On paper it's similar to his hire of Leipold at Buffalo. Leipold had won multiple D3 titles and rarely lost at UW-Whitewater and he made the bold decision to call him up to FBS. Immediate success at Buffalo.

That said, this isn't Buffalo football. This would be bolder. He knows basketball though, so I think he would only do it if he was highly, highly confident in her ability to win.
I agree that he had hired some excellent coaches but yeah, Buffalo football is great place to cut your teeth. I’m not sure this high profile of a program in this particular sport is. It would definitely be bold to hire someone with no big time experience to this stage.

My source is solid. It is hard to believe.

You don't need to talk to the players to get a sense of how a coach and an program is progressing or not. It is usually self-evident with recruiting, roster, game performances, record.

White made a big deal about "talking to the players" before hiring the soccer team's longtime assistant to be the new coach. He was popular with the players, and the players wanted him as the new coach. Amateur move by White--shades Holly Warlick--and the program has gone backward significantly since. Like Fulmer with Harper, White apparently did very little in the way of conducting a real search after Pensky left.

your comment i replied to was about stevens, the coach at marshall. the poster you replied to mentioned stevens.

Everyone just chill. We don’t know who it’s gonna be, but I do know that his interview processes are in depth and DEEP. It very well could be someone completely out of the blue.

All I’m saying is that she was interviewed more than once, and Danny liked what he heard and her plans. It was the buzz that it was her,

….HOWEVER….

Danny is known for very secretive hiring processes, and for creating buzz around a name and then going a different direction.

Everyone just breathe and chill before getting out your pitchforks. Even if the hire isn’t exactly who you wanted keep in mind I know for a FACT that interest wasn’t an issue, so whoever gets hired they killed the interview and provided a plan for success that was approved of.

There are a handful of coaches I like. But I'm all in on Gonzaga's Lisa Fortier. She's attainable. Proven winner 81% over 10 years, with an average of 27 wins per year.

I think she'd be a great hire--though she's got a husband as an assistant. I'm curious to know if she's been approached/interviewed--anything,

Stephens would be a textbook Danny White hire. Fits the bill based on his history.

Doesn't mean he should or would, but she's defintely a winner. Doesn't mean she would win here, but...

If he does it, I predict some meltdowns... but I personally would be excited to see what she can do.

Your last sentence is all that anyone could do at that point.

There are several winners out there with much more major-college experience.
