Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Couldn't disagree more. There's possible irrepairable harm to a foul this time.

We can't wait, and it has to be as close to a home run huge hire as humanly possible. And bring big talent along. Or we're in big trouble.

My one comfort in this is I know DW knows this and don't believe he would have thrown a grenade in on things without a plan.

I agree. She’s an up and comer, might work out, might not. No harm no foul. There are other options that may come at a different price tag. Thus…we wait. We’ll see. I only know one thing…we’ll know when we know. It’s simply fodder at this point.
She's becoming a polarizing name, but her winning percentage as a HC is impressive. She's more than just a pretty face. She can coach ball. It's the most high-risk and high-reward hire out there.

253–47 (.843)

Just read bio of Lindsay Gottlieb very impressive taking Cal to a final 4 getting hired by NBA as assistant her college playing was part player part coach and now at USC she obviously relates to young players because her recruiting is wonderful. I have no idea who AD is targeting but this Coach must be contacted to interview. In CHRIST Alone

Wouldn’t you agree? You may not start there, but if you end there, it ain’t terrible. Just a question

She is but the resume is just not there.
With that said, you better get in on her early I guess, because it’s apparent that she is making a name for herself.

Well, just to put the unpopular opinion of the day out there, I really dislike the idea of new coaches bringing along players with them when changing schools. I know that it's the players' right to transfer and follow the coach, but to consider that as a factor is just cold, mercenary behavior regardless of how much it's a part of "the real world" in college sports today. Even pro teams get an opportunity to match free agent offers, right?

It's one thing to poach coaches from other schools. Part of the business and happens all the time unless promoting from within or hiring coaches currently not employed. But to take the coach AND the best players can just decimate a program or at least set it back years. It really puts the pressure on schools to try to come up with the $$ to keep not just their coaches but the players who will leave.

If someone had lured Summitt away with tons of cash, and she could have brought the three Meeks along with her, I doubt many Vol fans would have just shrugged and said, "Part of the business." I'd think most would see it as the poaching school buying a team.

Legal in today's world but still leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

My only issue with her is I have always maintained she is not a good Xs and Os basketball coach. If she can recruit at the level she has been she will be a success anywhere. If she were to have trouble recruiting at UT she’s probably in trouble.

You look at her history and she is prone do doing a lot with a lot and then nothing with less.

She’s career 64% winner overall and 55% in the PAC-12 and that has mostly been feast or famine. She’s now made the EE twice.

After her last appearance her team immediately regressed, bounced twice in the second round and the no tourney at all and a sub .500 season in 15-16.

Something this program would not tolerate.

The ONLY thing that makes her attractive is her recruiting but I’m not sure she could do the same in Knoxville as she can at USC.

Agree. Love the potential, and she's young, but no way that White would hire her at this time. Most likely steps to a major program would be taking a losing team the way Ralph has stepped in at Vandy and start making them competitive. Or a successful mid-major and schedule tough with some upsets and NCAA appearances.

Pay her dues unless some desperate AD wants to take a moonshot and Miller was willing to take the risk of failing at a reclamation project.

My prediction: Wes Moore

I advocated for him to follow Holly and be the perfect bridge coach to right the ship, figuring he was nearing retirement within five years or so back then. Figured that would give time to prove the Mo State rebuild and SS run was not a fluke if Kellie could eventually take over. Also thought Niele Ivey would have been good although she seemed to be McGraw's heir apparent.

You are correct. your brain is fried... JK... I still like Wes Moore or Becky Hammon..

GO LADY VOLS!!!!
I was really just being facetious,, in all seriousness Dawn Staley would be my
First choice but realistically not possible.
Moore or Hammon would be great.

Again, I simply ask who you got? Who’s your pick, money is no issue?
If money is no issue? Then take $5 million and give it to either Kim Mulkey or Dawn Staley. Some may scoff at that much for a women’s coach but think about it. If either one of them came here it instantaneously boosts our program. We would be getting elite recruits and both are elite coaches. If either one came even somewhere close to what Pat achieved then that’s money well spent.

Why would those two leave their current positions? c’mon.

So she took California to final 4 California and she is not a good X O coach. Then why would NBA team want her as well. Let me tell you about in game coaching all the greats had there moments in games were they blew it all of them. If you are looking for perfection then Hire Candence Parker because she has never lost a game coaching.

If you can recruit you can recruit then add Lady Vols to your sales job.

It couldn't because the amount that would need to be paid to her dropped by 50 percent on April 1st. Before is would've been 1.1 million and on April 1st 550 thousand for four years. So DW saved quite a bit of money by waiting.
Also why would you want that to take over all news in Knoxville ? He did right thing In waiting money wise and PR wise . The boys program deserves better than all the news being about a fired coach instead of them and the great season that was ongoing and elite eight appearance .

And she’s attractive, a household name, former LV & WNBA champion. I don’t know if she ever desires to coach but if she does DW would at least have to talk. I just think we need an experienced proven winning coach. Glad it’s not my decision!

DW leaking Gottlieb’s name to the media to try to get her hyped up when he hires her looks like.

Again, hope we do well, but this has been a mistake. See you in 2 years after we regret this.
I've read this article and must admit know nothing about her but the write up definitely made her sound good . But after reading forum a lot of folks don't like her ..
What do you dislike about her ?
