Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Right she inherited a good team from the coach who took over for Gail Goestenkors when she left Duke for Texas.

Gottlieb had a couple good seasons with McCallies players, including a FF. Then her team completely imploded. She weaseled her way into an NBA job before she got fired from Cal which was on the horizon after she severely under achieved with teams built around Kristine Anigwe who was a stellar player.

Got some NBA experience then when to USC and used that clout to capture a top recruit in Watkins and now the #1 recruiting class. She actually loses a good bit this season so we will see if the players she has can carry her or not.

Because her history shows that unless she has a team of really dynamic players she isn’t that good.
Well, getting the dynamic players are how SC, UConn and TN of old did it so….

I’m not real fond of her either

Becky Hammon would be a generational hire imo

If White doesn't at least sound her out---and sound her out with a commitment to pay her much more than she's getting in the WNBA--then
we should stop heaping praise on the guy as if he's some unusually good AD. He's only made 2 hires---Heupel, whom he worked with prior to coming to UT--and the soccer coach. There wasn't a real national search in either situation. I like Heup and he had the one very good year when we had an excellent QB and receiving corp--but it remains very uncertain how he/we will do in football in the absurdly large and very tough SEC, which of course now has two new and very strong football programs.

This will be an important hire for him.

The irony here is that you are never going to know if White really does "sound her out." You'll read what the press articles say, and what people will claim to know, but you will never know the truth. If they speak, what they speak about, if he offers her, if she counters, whether or not Hammond actually wants to make that kind of move, whether or not her preferences are already known amongst athletics circles - you're never going to know.

So ultimately, you're just going to have decide whether or not to praise him based on his results. Or whatever.

Just to state the blatantly obvious reality-- The biggest PR blunder in history would be UT hiring a man for this job. The position is the most important in women's basketball. Giving it to a man would be a big orange train wreck.
Come on SF. Men coach both sides. I wouldnt say the biggest PR blunder in history. Thats a bit dramatic.

Go get Becky Hammon. She was lured away from San Antonio by Mark Davis for an annual salary of $1M/year. That tells me money speaks to her. Currently, Kim Mulkey is the highest paid NCAAW coach at $3.2M/year. Offer Becky the same if not more. Make the statement that we don't play around. Get. It. Done,

Men coaching both sides is irrelevant. Pat was the woman who made a women’s sport relevant. She is the most important historical figure in women’s basketball ever, and one of the most important sports figures of all time. Hiring a man in that position would be a big mistake. White is astute and aware. No way he’s going to undermine that legacy.

Limited thinking. From the makers of “Black QBs don’t have what it takes to win in the NFL.”

Sorry grandma. Wrong as usual. Dumb retort from the makers of “George Clooney should play Nelson Mandela in the movie”.
As you declare vociferously…whiffing on the point.

It's more important to get the best coach available.

As always, I wish you the softest of foods in the home. I made the point, you missed it. If you don’t understand the historical importance of Pat in women’s sports, I can’t help you. There is no equivalence in your analogy, which makes it comically absurd.

Well, the dumbest poster on the forum liked your post. Good sign. Everyone wants the “best coach available”. It is also true that the best coach and the best coach available are probably both women. The pool isn’t shallow on great women coaches.

And if it's a female that's who we should get. If it's a male then that's who we should get.
A greater disservice is being done to Pat's legacy by destroying the program she built then worrying about who's coaching it.

Why would those two leave their current positions? c’mon.
Exactly... What is more likely

Karl Smesko
Wes Moore
Jeff Walz
Bart Brooks
Lisa Fortier
Kim Stephens
Molly Miller

Kim and Molly both being swing for the fences types of hire. I think Karl or Kim would do great here if they have interest. The others have great track records for longer periods of time.
