Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

The drive bys are so wild. People wonder y I don’t respect them
Just because folks don't live on the board commenting on goings on about the Vol programs 24/7 like a lot of you doesn't mean we don't actively follow what's going on with our alma mater and aren't engaged in other ways. This is an exciting hire that I thought would be fun to engage on the board with ideas and options, but these kinds of comments shutting us down because we don't have THOUSANDS of posts doesn't mean our ideas aren't worth consideration. Don't get the rudeness.

Blake Toppmeyer said in today's KNS that Lisa Gottlieb of Southern California would be a big swing for the fences hire by White.
Gottlieb is not leaving California/USC/B1G for any other job imo. I guess we will know soon enough.

This was also part of my tinfoil hat, conspiracy theory pitch today. The stage is arguably larger for college bb, and you don’t have all the egos of the pros. Plus the facilities are nice, you don’t have to play in a casino, cost of living here is far lower. Obviously, stars have to align with what the coach wants, but there is a world somewhere in which this is plausible.
Plus--no state income tax. You get to take home your money legally here!

The info SF shares is spot on. How big we talking SF? 2 or 2.5mil big?
Firing a former player who gets you to the sweet 16 means you believe we have to hire someone who can win championships. If you are going to take that position, you have to pay. If we hire an up and comer and overpay them, he’ll be out on a limb. He has the support to spend big money.

Becky ain’t coming here y’all. Pro coaches rarely leave for college because of the recruiting grind.

She’s on top of the world in the W right now. She won’t leave a dynasty for us.

Hammon certainly might prefer the pro environment, especially since she's been in it for several years, if not longer--but there is nothing "top of the world" about the WNBA, IMO. The league loses money, the players are poorly paid, it has virtually no TV audience. Indeed, hasn't the NBA subsidized the WNBA since it started? The league wouldn't survive on its own.

Who besides Hammon would be an A+ hire? I can't think of anybody who'd be remotely viable except maybe Moore and Schaefer--and given their ages I'd rate them B and B+ at this stage of their careers.

I don't know if Becky Hammon is even a consideration. But this is the biggest job in women's sports. The WNBA isn't the top echelon in women's basketball from a ratings or tv revenue standpoint, college is. There are no WNBA coaches who are paid what top college coaches are paid.

That said, I've heard Ole Miss's coach and USC's coach are on the short list, but they also said Walz. This by someone who guaranteed me that Kellie was done back in January and that White has been prepping for this for a while.

We will be hiring someone who embraces NIL more than the outgoing staff did.

Not gonna get political here, but just as a way of measuring how times have changed in & around women's sports...
think of the questions Danny White might have to ask a candidate today, that he would have never imagined to ask when he was interviewing Kellie.

Sincerely hope the NIL Collective for Lady Vols will also see changes.

On the other hand... look at our experience with Rick Barnes. Many thought he was just coming to mark time till retirement, but he has further elevated our men's program, and I expect will retire leaving it as a coveted destination program.

Danny might see in one of the "seasoned" coaches someone who could similarly solidify our ladies' program, get it back on high standards, and after 5-8 years, have our Lady Vols listed in the top tier of programs again and ready to hire from the best of the (now up and coming but by then,) proven coaches.

Lady Vols beat writer Cora Hall had a list of 11 people who could succeed Harper in today's KNS.

Among them are Close of UCLA and Ralph of Vanderbilt along with Gottlieb and Coach Yo.

I said this on an earlier post that may have not been seen, but I also think folks probably look at all of the rights being rolled back in Nashville and have reason for pause.
I admit I skipped about 15 pages of posts, the thread has been so popular! I'm glad we still have plenty who care about our women's sports.

I have some involvement with our legislature, but I'm honestly not tracking with what you said about rights being rolled back. That, of course, concerns me. If it's something controversial, and a PM from you is more appropriate (or less distracting from the thread), I'd appreciate if you could bring me up to speed.

This was my thinking with the Gail G suggestion. Barnes also struggled at TX (see image) leading up to coming here, but he is a great coach and look how that turned out for us! Fantastic!
But, my first choice is Hammon, for sure.

DW leaking Gottlieb’s name to the media to try to get her hyped up when he hires her looks like.

Again, hope we do well, but this has been a mistake. See you in 2 years after we regret this.
I can’t find the part that says any of this article came from DW.

I'd flip that and say from the other perspective what man would want to come here and deal with all this... Constantly under a microscope, Maria Cornelius sniffing around your locker room and the first misstep putting the drama out to say "ah ha told you so". Until the boomers die off I'd encourage most men to steer clear of this job.
Hah! Who do you think sends the big $ to the athletics department?
Be careful who you want to die. You might actually have to get your own wallet out.
