Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

And this is why Kellie Harper is no longer head coach.

Your comment and that attendance has nothing to do with Kellie or her ability to Coach, and everything to do with the Clark player and hype.
I think the op was making a statement about relevancy, but chose an example that didn't quite apply. Actually, the LVs were involved in several of the most watched tv games this year. Nowhere near the viewership for this game of course, but yeah, I don't think tv viewership was amongst the problems.

By this "logic", how does Dawn Staley have a job? the ratings for her elite 8 game against paled in comparison.

I get that the OP is thrilled to the point of ecstasy that he predicted Kellie being fired but his "dancing on the grave" moves need some work.

On the other hand... look at our experience with Rick Barnes. Many thought he was just coming to mark time till retirement, but he has further elevated our men's program, and I expect will retire leaving it as a coveted destination program.

Danny might see in one of the "seasoned" coaches someone who could similarly solidify our ladies' program, get it back on high standards, and after 5-8 years, have our Lady Vols listed in the top tier of programs again and ready to hire from the best of the (now up and coming but by then,) proven coaches.

Yes---agree: These guys would certainly be at or near the top of my list. One problem is that it will take at least three years for either of these guys to rebuild the talent and start to build some genuine momentum--by which time Moore is at or near 70 and Schaefer would be 66 or so.....Could get a little problematic. In a perfect world you'd want to find a Moore-, McGraw- or Schaefer-like coaching talent in his or her, say, 40s. One thing we've not done since PS is conduct a thorough search with multiple interviews. Even if we were fortunate to have interest from established coaches, i'd lean on interviews heavily and not just make assumptions. Fulmer's process was lazy and superficial, and we see the result.

Yes...

of course, viewership was the least of our concerns, but I think Danny White understood the growth of the sport represented a shortened window to restore the success of the program and he knew he had to make a move. The value of the brand dimmed with every passing year, highlighted by other teams dominating the sport. For a man who really does believe in "#EverythingSchool" waiting another year wasn't an option.

Didn't know 60 was the cutoff age. I'm googling to help you out with information you are sorely lacking.

Rick Barnes - 69
Bruce Pearl - 64
Geno Auriemma - 70
Kim Mulkey - 61
Tara VanDerveer - 70
Jim Harbaugh - 61

I could go on, but it looks like you know what you know.
They're all coaching now. She hasn't coached in 12 years....recruits won't care what she did when they were born (when she was actually good at coaching)

Nothing wrong with that line. Its not a personal wish. My mother is a boomer in her 70's. I don't want her dead (seriously...jfc).

But these are historical truths...

Integration wasn't possible until it was electorally feasible for politicians to support it.
Same sex marriage wasn't possible until a large portion of the WW2 generation had passed away.

In 2040 the likelihood that the Tennessee fan base cares if a man coaches the Lady Vol basketball program will be substantially lower than it is today. In part because the people it matters most to will be gone.
Your point was until the boomers are gone the tennessee job is not a desirable one. Is it correct that you would like to get a good coach and therefore need the job to be desirable? I hope you see how your line of thought concludes here.

Gottlieb has #1 recruiting class coming in at USC and JuJu Watkins.

ZERO chance she leaves that gold mine for Tennessee.
Well I wouldn't.

Last week there was zero chance Kellie was fired... and yet here we are ;) Like i said earlier, if Danny White wants Gottlieb, he gets Gottlieb. I'm hoping we would present a good NIL package for her to bring her players/ recruits. With USC's men basketball loading up the brink's truck to steal Arkansas's coach today, I doubt there is little cash left for them fight us off.

I think White pulled to plug way to late should have done it right after the lost to NC ST. Most of the players in the portal are moving fast

You know, I'm really getting sick of you trying to turn every comment I make into something it's not. Take off your NEGAXX glasses and give it a break. IF i want to say something negative, 99% i'll be very direct with it, so trust me - you won't miss it.

I was simply stating an observation that Danny White understands the value of the TN brand, the state of growth in women's basketball right now, and the opportunity to restore a program. If women's basketball wasn't growing, and its reach still limited to a subset of demographics - Kellie would probably have another year or two as the Lady Vol head coach. Danny knows a good coach will fill that arena with 12k+, and can be a part of the growth of the sport. He gets IT.

Appreciate your posts Volstylexx

Again like my previous post,, 3.1 versus.2.2
Million payout. Common sense.

I thought money was no object and that we were flush with cash. Fifty million here and eighty million there, and eventually we're talking real money.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I tired to treat Kellie with grace, even in criticism, because she deserved that for many reasons. I wish her the best. I am also extremely excited for the future of Lady Vol basketball. I understand that's not a congruent position for some folks, but it doesn't make me a villain.

“Embraces NIL”.? Kellie didn’t have any serious NIL to embrace. Will be interesting to see if DW bothers to find some when the new coach gets here.
NIL exists here for the Lady Vols. Kellie refused to play ball. Even after the recent court ruling made it possible to speak about it openly. This is coming from the parents of recruits. They were frustrated/stonewalled when they mentioned it. Other schools mention it.

Regardless of the Caitlin Clark effect, Kellie was going to be on the hot seat. Even as an ardent Kellie supporter, her five years at the helm did not include a single title or produce tangible evidence that the program was trending toward being a NC contender. I was one of many who embraced the justifications (or excuses as others would say) for this state of affairs -- injuries, NIL and so on. But, I think the deathknell was the fact that the program took a tangible step back from the preceding season- lower conference finish, not as far in the SEC tournament, and missing the S16). Kellie did have enough wins capital to survive a regressive season.

I think a steady state-- doing as well last season--would have likely kept Kellie in the job. I don't think any AD would want the blowback of firing a coach that had taken her team to 3 straight S16s and finished 3rd in the toughest conference in the country. Actually, I predicted that Kellie would be in real jeopardy if the team did not reach those benchmarks (and I was convinced that they would go further).

My personal view is that the rising ratings for WCBB had zilch to do with her dismissal but my guess is no better than yours.

But, given that Kellie has been fired, it does seem like dancing on the grave to keep coming back with "THIS is the reason Kellie got fired".

You seem really thin skinned. You like to throw a stone and then whine, "what I was not throwing that stone!!. I merely tossed it., When I throw a stone you will know it!!" (Oohh SOOO Scary!!).

Anyway, youngin' you do you. I promise not respond to any of your future posts.

That’s right where I am. I’m very excited, I’m grateful for what she did, but was ready to see a change.
