And this is why Kellie Harper is no longer head coach.
I think the op was making a statement about relevancy, but chose an example that didn't quite apply. Actually, the LVs were involved in several of the most watched tv games this year. Nowhere near the viewership for this game of course, but yeah, I don't think tv viewership was amongst the problems.Your comment and that attendance has nothing to do with Kellie or her ability to Coach, and everything to do with the Clark player and hype.
By this "logic", how does Dawn Staley have a job? the ratings for her elite 8 game against paled in comparison.Your comment and that attendance has nothing to do with Kellie or her ability to Coach, and everything to do with the Clark player and hype.
On the other hand... look at our experience with Rick Barnes. Many thought he was just coming to mark time till retirement, but he has further elevated our men's program, and I expect will retire leaving it as a coveted destination program.
Danny might see in one of the "seasoned" coaches someone who could similarly solidify our ladies' program, get it back on high standards, and after 5-8 years, have our Lady Vols listed in the top tier of programs again and ready to hire from the best of the (now up and coming but by then,) proven coaches.

They're all coaching now. She hasn't coached in 12 years....recruits won't care what she did when they were born (when she was actually good at coaching)Didn't know 60 was the cutoff age. I'm googling to help you out with information you are sorely lacking.
Rick Barnes - 69
Bruce Pearl - 64
Geno Auriemma - 70
Kim Mulkey - 61
Tara VanDerveer - 70
Jim Harbaugh - 61
I could go on, but it looks like you know what you know.
Your point was until the boomers are gone the tennessee job is not a desirable one. Is it correct that you would like to get a good coach and therefore need the job to be desirable? I hope you see how your line of thought concludes here.Nothing wrong with that line. Its not a personal wish. My mother is a boomer in her 70's. I don't want her dead (seriously...jfc).
But these are historical truths...
Integration wasn't possible until it was electorally feasible for politicians to support it.
Same sex marriage wasn't possible until a large portion of the WW2 generation had passed away.
In 2040 the likelihood that the Tennessee fan base cares if a man coaches the Lady Vol basketball program will be substantially lower than it is today. In part because the people it matters most to will be gone.
Gottlieb has #1 recruiting class coming in at USC and JuJu Watkins.
ZERO chance she leaves that gold mine for Tennessee.
Well I wouldn't.

I get that the OP is thrilled to the point of ecstasy that he predicted Kellie being fired but his "dancing on the grave" moves need some work.
Appreciate your posts VolstylexxYou know, I'm really getting sick of you trying to turn every comment I make into something it's not. Take off your NEGAXX glasses and give it a break. IF i want to say something negative, 99% i'll be very direct with it, so trust me - you won't miss it.
I was simply stating an observation that Danny White understands the value of the TN brand, the state of growth in women's basketball right now, and the opportunity to restore a program. If women's basketball wasn't growing, and its reach still limited to a subset of demographics - Kellie would probably have another year or two as the Lady Vol head coach. Danny knows a good coach will fill that arena with 12k+, and can be a part of the growth of the sport. He gets IT.

NIL exists here for the Lady Vols. Kellie refused to play ball. Even after the recent court ruling made it possible to speak about it openly. This is coming from the parents of recruits. They were frustrated/stonewalled when they mentioned it. Other schools mention it.“Embraces NIL”.? Kellie didn’t have any serious NIL to embrace. Will be interesting to see if DW bothers to find some when the new coach gets here.
Regardless of the Caitlin Clark effect, Kellie was going to be on the hot seat. Even as an ardent Kellie supporter, her five years at the helm did not include a single title or produce tangible evidence that the program was trending toward being a NC contender. I was one of many who embraced the justifications (or excuses as others would say) for this state of affairs -- injuries, NIL and so on. But, I think the deathknell was the fact that the program took a tangible step back from the preceding season- lower conference finish, not as far in the SEC tournament, and missing the S16). Kellie did have enough wins capital to survive a regressive season. You know, I'm really getting sick of you trying to turn every comment I make into something it's not. Thank you. I appreciate it. I tired to treat Kellie with grace, even in criticism, because she deserved that for many reasons. I wish her the best. I am also extremely excited for the future of Lady Vol basketball. I understand that's not a congruent position for some folks, but it doesn't make me a villain.
