Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

That poster doesn’t like that Dawn speaks on race issues. He’s one of those “shut up and dribble” people. Just go through a few post.
Dawn Staley is a class act and tough as nails. What impressed me most is when she hired Melanie Balcomb as an analyst to help their offense. She was smart enough to admit she needed help in that area. If Holly or Kellie had had that much sense either probably would still be here,

add dawn and thats it

We would be lucky to land someone of Dawn's caliber.

I personally find Kim Mulkey fairly entertaining most of the time. I understand why people dislike her, but when you stop taking her seriously, she's quite fun to watch. She jumps from utter lunatic rants to really intelligent basketball thoughts to emotional stories and then back to basketball sometimes in a matter of minutes. It's awesome.

Wow---kids and families would like free cash if you wanted to give it to them? What a shocker.

The problem started with these idiotic programs who corrupted the original purpose of NIL--which had nothing to do with recruiting. College sports has been around for more than 100 years and nobody ever said: "How come we're not all bribing kids with cash to sign with us." Yes, some of that went on a relatively low and illegal level with a few select prospects--but 90 percent of the student-athletes chose schools for the right reasons. Who offers me the most money is NEVER the right reason--period. I don't know who started packaging NIL with a recruiting pitch--but it was stupid and opened a huge ball of wax that NO COACH in America really likes. And why should they? If anybody deserves more consideration, it's the non-revenue student-athletes who are the most well-rounded athletes on every campus--nearly all of whom are only getting partial financial aid.
Okay, so to put an even finer point on it, if you were a highly recruited high school athlete in today’s world for a sport like football or basketball, are you turning down the money entirely?

Neither of them failed because they were compared to Pat. They accomplished that on their own.
This. That argument reminds me of the people who always defend Kesling by claiming people criticize him because he’s not John Ward. No, people criticize him because he’s bad at his job. It’s entirely possible to follow a legend and also be a crappy coach/announcer or whatever.

Buckle up x100!

Remember when breaking news is reported usually there’s a gap meaning interviews were underway as early as yesterday evening into night and this morning. This is what I do for a living folks! Sources are tight and we’re not naming names to the public. Just a FYI, the timeline for an offer to the lead candidate and acceptance/negotiation period may begin as soon as Thursday night - Friday. There’s a strong pool of applicants. We could get an announcement as early as Saturday. You wanted a home run! With the bases full and your designated hitter at the plate what you call that? A GRAND slam!GBO!

If this is accurate, I don’t like the idea of “rising stars”. LV isn’t a program where someone can come and learn on the job.

Quick update: The inbound interest is very strong for the job this time. That’s the opposite of the last go round. As a courtesy to those coaches and their agents (who are the agents of other coaches) we’ll screen and interview people who aren’t in contention for the job. The list of three viable options may have expanded to four or five, but they are still focused on a primary target who they’ve been talking to for awhile. I think we’ll have a coach by the end of next week. This shouldn’t last long.
thank you for the update

I figured the interviews someone said were starting today were mostly formality. I just never thought that White just started the process Monday. I think that dude knows exactly what he’s doing, and I think it’s going to be a nice hire.

I see nothing funny or entertaining about Kim Mulkey and her antics. In fact, I think she is a.disgrace to the game of basketball. Some of the outfits she wears reminds me of circus clowns.

I think a lot of investigation would precede any offer to a rising star, but such a person could be the best hire. Pat was a rising star which became the brightest star in the Universe.

Completely disagree. For starters, Pat wasn’t a rising star, she literally created the program at a time when women’s basketball was essentially brand new. You can’t use her as a defense here. Second, TN has focused on “rising stars” too many times in too many programs and it hasn’t worked. In fact, Jeremy Pruitt called, he’d like an interview. Third, Big time programs at big time universities are not tailored made for on-the-job training.

If you’re going the “rising star” route, you might as well call Harper back and say it was an April fools joke gone bad.

DW leaking Gottlieb’s name to the media to try to get her hyped up when he hires her looks like.

Again, hope we do well, but this has been a mistake. See you in 2 years after we regret this.

This is beyond crazy. Gottlieb would be a SLAM dunk, program reviving type of hire. This would send a strong message to the rest of wbb that THE Lady Vols are back!

Does this leave out Hammond?
Gosh, I hope not. I know it was a longshot, and maybe never even a remote possibility. But my heart sure is set on Hammon because IMO she checks all the boxes. I would bet the farm she'd have Tennessee back to competing for championships in short order. I am confident she'd have the kind of pull to hire a terrific group of assistants/top-notch recruiters to get us up and in the running for bigtime recruits immediately.

She could be THAT huge a hire.
(oh please oh please oh pkease let it happen!)
