Kirby Smart takes subtle shot at Vols

Of Course not but it don't change Kirby's narrative
Not will it. He’s insufferable like his mentor. He will be insufferable at age 70 like his mento ,in spite of ridiculous success. He will still focus on inventing ways to feel slighted or cheated and taking subtle shots at others to make himself and his team seem better than everyone. Sports these days is getting hard to watch because so many great athletes are obsessed with being offended/insulted (much like many fans I suppose) . It honestly seems exhausting to me, because it’s exhausting to see and hear. Can’t imagine living in that way, always twisting actions and words of others to motivate yourself in spite of how unfairly you characterize others.(Kirby and others do to this offense and Hendon) Having to put down what someone else does and has done to prop yourself or your player/program up is so lame and petty, especially for a 2 time national champion.

Really? So u think that the Vols won’t potentially use this or any other perceived way that they might have been slighted as locker room board material? Sure they will.

Kirby had a top 5 roster the year he took over, they were already recruiting well.
No, they were always in the Top 10 to 12 in recruiting year in and year out and had a Top 10 roster but Kirby generally finishes 1, 2 or 3 in recruiting, every year. He has elevated their game in that area and many others.

This is absolutely the case. GA’s success lately is a direct result of ridiculous recruiting. Bama has been doing this for years. If you’re loaded with talent you have a huge advantage. Even the best scheme and coaching is at a disadvantage if they are outgunned.

Maybe, but I think that’s weak too. However, the two teams are different. You’re talking about a two time defending champion picking fights with a team that hasn’t been a threat, taking a shot at a QB to try to hype up their former QB for the draft. It’s dumb. I’m talking about perceived slights, this isn’t perceived, Kirby actually said it. Nice “gotcha” attempt though. I generally think that any athlete at that level or higher looking for extra motivation from other sources is pretty weak. JMO.

Its easy to see what he is getting at, thats the way you can play with 5 star talent at every position. Both Smart and Satan would insist this is the way to play football. Other teams without that talent level (98%of the teams in D1) have to do some of that, you know, coaching stuff.

Who is his target audience?

Well, truth be told, he can jab at our program with immunity until we beat him again on the field.
You beat our offense with better NFL talent at all 11 defensive positions than we can muster on offense, and have them mentally prepared to exploit our weaknesses.
So far, Kirby has met the challenge. The other 5-star defense did not.
We want him to shut up, we need to score 52 on his defense.
It will always come down to LOS on both sides of the ball with GA in this ERA.

I can see your point, but I didn’t really see it so much as Kirby taking a shot at any other QB. Yes, he is certainly trying to talk up Bennet but that isn’t a terrible thing to do. Bennet needs all the help he can get. Kirby’s just trying to emphasize a strength of Bennetts. He can’t say he has great size or a cannon arm. His mobility will not serve him as well in the nfl as it did in college. So he says the system allowed him to excel at pre-snap adjustments and forced him to make good decisions. He is also subtly attempting to make the QB position at GA look attractive to recruits.

I don't think Stetson Bennett is an automatic washout in the NFL. He overachieved at UGA, so, he may be able to prove everyone wrong at the next level as well. I dislike him as a rival talent, but he has already played far above his physical potential. He is a great role model for players with average attributes to never give up and keep striving.

UGA was always a couple of plays away from the National Championship during the Richt years. His legacy will always short change what he accomplished there after the Donnan era. Richt took Atlanta away from UT, and that setup the era of dominance we are still in today.

I also think Mark Richt had Kirby setup with a Top 5 Roster. We definitely agree Kirby has taken them to the next level (Number 1 or 2 roster and recruiting class each season) in talent and coaching, but they had championship rosters before he was hired. Richt put it to Fulmer, but always stumbled late in the season (except 2002, you go 13-1 and win the Sugar Bowl, it was a great season. Richt won it twice).
Richt made UGA a Top 5 program, but will always be remembered for being a game or two short each year. The difference is UGA went even higher afterward.

Top 6, sorry.

Richt's last 4 classes were ranked #9, #12, #8 and #6 on the composite.

In chronological order, Kirby's classes have been ranked #6, #3, #1, #2, #1, #4 and #3 on the composite. His current class he is recruiting right now sits at #2. Kirby improved UGA's recruiting significantly.

As I said they have always recruited somewhere in the Top 10-12 every year because they are the flagship university of an extremely talent rich state with virtually no in-state competition. Much like LSU, who has always performed similarly in recruiting but has been less consistent in the W-L column than UGA has.

I mean, he was basically saying Hooker didn’t have to think in this system, make tears, etc. did you hear or read what he said? I like Bennett, no I’ll will towards him, which is why I wouldn’t like Heupel pointing out perceived benefits he has at UGA that Hooker didn’t have here as a way to talk up Hooker. I just don’t see the point. I don’t care when guys do it, doesn’t hurt my feelings. I just think it’s dumb and I also don’t get getting motivated by it. I think he was dumb to say it but I also don’t think it matters. If UT needs extra motivation for Georgia then I am concerned .

No I didn’t pick up that he was referring to Hooker. I could have just missed it. I’ll check it out again win I get a chance. I agree, TN doesn’t need extra motivation for GA.

The NFL is about speed. Mental and physical speed. Do you want a QB that will take the whole time clock to make his reads or do you want one that can do that in 10 - 15 seconds? Hooker was amazing at spotting the open guy and he was making any changes needed at the LOS. The thing people don't realize is that this was 'normal game speed' for Hooker. He didn't rush and he didn't hurry. How do I know this? Look at his TD to Int. ratio. It's incredible.

The point was, look at what Kirby inherited vs what Heupel inherited. UGA already had a roster that could compete for a national title, no matter how much he has improved it, he had it day 1.

That point is not in dispute, the last 4 UT classes before Heupel were ranked 17, 21, 13 and 11. Because of the various portal defections post-Cornbread our team talent composite ranking going into Heupel's first year was 19th in the nation.

Translation: “I’m skurt”

Yep…he skurt
He should be, and so should others. He's got a new QB playing, Bama has a new QB playing,, FL the same.
I think TN is going to be very well rounded this season
