8 teams. Getting a bye in the playoffs is too big an advantage IMO. I realize NFL allows it but this isn’t NFL.

Sure, same way im good with a 10-12 loss win in the final 4, an 8-8 wild card winning the super bowl etc.
. I don’t because then it is like all the other sports. Right now the whole season is like a playoff. That single game where Purdue beat Ohio St mattered. When UGA lost at LSU that mattered. If you expand the playoff or make automatic qualifiers you start diluting those things that make this sport stand out.

Yeah, the whole season matters, if you are supposed to be good but lose games you shouldnt. Its ridiculous that over half the teams in the league have no chance at a championship because they arent called "insert name"

So the criteria for bring considered the "four best teams" doesnt need to include the ability to win your conference? Lol
We just witnessed the national championship last night. If you're too dense to see that it's possible the 2 best teams could be in the same conference I can't help you. If you want to watch a 8 win team win it all watch the nfl

What 8 win team won their conference this year?

I think 4 is a little short, but 100 years of competition has shown that you generally come down to 1 or 2 undefeated teams each year. In that sense, 4 is enough. If they expanded it to 32 teams, you'd still have just as much drama about who the 33rd "most deserving" team is. The goal is to figure out who is number 1, not who is number 5. The team in that 4th spot is not important. Don't get me wrong, they could win it. There is plenty of randomness in sports. But if a team wins by randomness, that is all in fun. It doesn't mean that somehow the randomness will stop if you expand the playoffs. The reverse is true. The bigger the playoff, the more random chance is introduced.

Expand it to 6 then people will want 8. Expand it to 8 then people will want 12 or 16. There is never going to be a happy medium.

Bama didn’t win the conference last year and they still ended up in the playoff. You can’t tell me there’s not a bias towards Bama

Thats the committes fault. When they screwed PSU out of the playoffs, they set the precedent. So no, Alabama deserved to be in last year.

The Group of 5 teams can earn their way in but it’s extremely difficult and does depend on the Power 5. Boise St was right there under the BCS system until they missed a kick against Nevada. But they scheduled 2 decent Power 5 opponents and beat them. Remember when Fresno St got all the hype when they did the same thing? People act like UCF can’t do the same. They can but they aren’t likely to get a home and home. They have to be willing to either go on the road or do a two for one I’m guessing. It’ll be interesting to see if they have staying power like Boise.

When a G5 plays a schedule with UF, at UGA, at Auburn, Alabama, at South Carolina, then closes with Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt, goes 11-1, then I am ready to talk about them getting in. It is not the one or two big games. It is the physical hell beating a P5 takes week after week.

Well, physical outside the Big 12. First half of the Big 12 title game reminded me of two hand touch football. OU and Texas LBs and DBs are not going to enjoy tackling the Bama and UGA backs.

It’s eventually going to be 8, but honestly four is the right number. In the five years since it’s inception, who has been left out that truly deserved a spot?
