NC-State is a big game for both, but there is a reason why the Duke/UNC game is the last game in the regular season....It usually means who wins the conference, not to mention when they meet in the tourny....NC-State game is nothing compared to a Duke/UNC game....No that wasn't my point.
I didn't say NC State was better. Duke obviously has the tradition. But I have many many NC State/UNC fans and the Duke game is huge. But the passion just isn't there like NC State and UNC.
I'll agree with that to an extent....I have just watched so many Duke/UNC games and followed the history of the programs to know what that game means to the players, coaches and fans....Not taking anything away from OSU/MICH or Yankees/Red Sox....But there is nothing to "me" that compares to the DUKE/UNC game....There's no settling the 'biggest rivalry' so no point really. It depends on how you want to judge a rivalry? Do you think the biggest rivalry is between the best teams in the nation going at it every year? Then yes.. Duke/UNC would be the biggest game.. and so would OSU/Michigan.
I overheard the former Ohio State qb saying last night on ESPN, saying(not verbatim) "Not only is the Ohio State and Michigan game the biggest rivalry in college football, but it compares to the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry of all times, that scale of rivalry".
Has the same feel of a UNC/NC-State game....WF/Duke had some huge games a couple years back when Chris Paul and company were at WF....It's a real shame that Skip Prosser left the college basketball community to soon, he was a good coach and leader that died to young...Sure I guess. I've only seen a few Duke/WF games but since they're both in North Carolina and aren't the state schools - I wouldn't be surprised if that is one passionate/intese rivalry.
Once again UNC-Duke is basically the same as OSU/Mich. in football.
Most UNC fans dislike NC State more than the Dukies anyway. Growing up in North Carolina... it's either the Tar Heels or the Wolf Pack.
That's what I have been trying to explain....I'd have to disagree there from my time as a UNC fan during my childhood.
NC State is the red headed step child (no pun intended). More people you know may have gone to NC State, but since UNC and Duke have stomped NC State in many of the years past, I can tell you most fans would rather beat UNC or Duke than NC State, that last one is expected.
Duke looks at WF as more of a rivalry because unlike State, WF has beaten them in the past and delivered many memorable games. I agree, UNC tries to shun NC-State. I just hate UNC so much it makes me want to throw up in my mouth even talking about them...UNC fans think that those who got into NC State didn't get into UNC. They consider themselves up there with Duke, and not at the lowly level of State.
It is all the State fans who hate UNC more than Duke because Duke doesn't even acknowledge them while UNC rubs it in.

What's happend to you today Bruno? I have never seen you argue about something that deep down you know is wrong. Duke is not a bandwagon school....Its a storied, tradition basketball school....If you are referring to them as bandwagonners than throw UNC in there as well, because how many MJ jersey's have you seen people all over the place where even though he hasnt played a game there since 82...Duke/UNC are the pride of North Carolina schools and like someone mentioned earlier NC-State is a red headed step child to them....come on man, whats wrong today?Of course NC State is no where close in basketball.. I'm talking NC State vs. UNC in general. The fans. If Duke didn't consist of 1,000,000 bandwagon fans for basketball then it would a real 'instate' rivalry like the Auburn/Bama ones.
What I'm getting at is - you don't see the same passion for the fans all the way across the board. Last season at the SEC softball tournament the bamers were cheering against us when we lost to Florida. You won't find UNC fans booing or hating on Duke in other sports like they may NC State... it's just different when you work/live with these people.
Uhhhhh yeah you will....I will always pull for whoever is playing UNC in anything....Duke fans hate UNC everything and vice versa....That's why its called a "rivalry"Of course NC State is no where close in basketball.. Their football program is a joke but, they have a legitimate shot at beat Notre Dame this weekend, I think that will make everyone become a "Duke Bandwagoner" this weekend...I really don't think its believable to say Duke/UNC football strikes passion in the fans. Maybe some - like you, Mike, I guess, but I would highly doubt the majority cares.
