Kirkland Jr. out

UT fans just wait for the other shoe to drop.....and we appear to have more than Imelda Marcos. It's like an orange groundhog day.....same thing over and over and over. Always something with this program. Fans live in a perpetual state of being cupped up and ready for the next blow and for good reason.

Never take off the big orange cup

He played pretty great in the Florida game last year. People love to hate Jumper

His coverage skills are not very good. Slow....and he was misaligned at times last year causing some of the hashing. I'm not hating on the kid just stating facts. Unless he's alot better he will hurt our defense....i hope another yeasr in system he can play faster

If Colton is, as stated, "disciplined", perhaps that extends to the weight room. Maybe he has developed more strength under Rock's program. He should be better than last year.

Fans need to give this kid credit. He busts his ass in everything he does. He's tough and smart. Doesn't get in trouble and somehow manages to stay out of the training room despite playing for UT. Given how we can't find LBs who can walk a straight line without injuring themselves, imagine what we'd been up against without this kid stepping up the way that he has for this program over the last couple of years. Folks never truly appreciate what they have until they don't have it anymore. We will get a taste of that when we don't have Dobbs bailing out the OL anymore and we'll miss Jumper when he's not there to step in when our 5 stars are spending more time on the training table than the practice fields.

Losing Kirkland for the tech gave is DEVESTATING!!!!!! Good LB play is uber important against a triple option team. With his photographic memory and high level play. When he was not playing you saw our defense last year and how th LB crew was SO AWFUL!!!!!

No disrespect to you or Kirkland, but "high level of play"?? Granted he showed a lot of promise his freshman season, but he's shown little since then. Was injured and limited last year and is now out with a knee this year for who know how long, but it really doesn't matter since our players need at least 12 months of complete bed rest to completely recover from any injury so one would assume he's going to be "limited and less than 100%" for the rest of this season thru spring ball and at least the start of fall camp next year.

What about that pass that he broke up in the corner of the end zone to prevent a touchdown? I'm not advocating that he play, I just think he gets way too much flack for doing his job to the best of his ability

Yuour right to extent he catches alot of flack....and he's made some really good plays for us in my opinion he's a great number 2ilb.....not a starter... he would not start on any premier sec defense....but yeah he catches more flack than he should I give u that

Its threads like this that make me realize how petty and fickle people are. The thread is about Kirkland 's injury and you jerks, behind an anonymous keyboard, want to take potshots at Jumper, who gives his heart and soul for the Vols. You slugs sit on the couch and act as though you watch how these kids do at practice. He's not as good as Kirkland, and he is a bit limited. But he's our guy if the coaches believe he is our best alternative so why not support him? Do you really think the coaches are trying to lose?

This isn't a pep rally, it's a discussion forum.

Jumper got better and better as the year went on. He was one of our more productive and reliable d backs by the end of the year. The best ability is availability. Jumper is solid at the position.

Man..He can't stay healthy either. The one guy they didn't need to lose. I guess other teams deal with injuries as well. Oline banged up, nursing Tuttle along, now Kirkland. An they haven't even played a snap yet.

Remember Coach Matthews on his last show said the one position he was worried about was LB......no quality depth . Would love to see Jumper excel but he can't afford to make tackles 6-7 yards past the line of scrimmage .

Both are just plain dumb. Our own highly touted DC has been quoted saying that he sees Jumper as a starter. Shoop has forgotten more about defensive talent than anyone on here. So either Shoop or us fans are dumb.

What's he going to say though? That's textbook motivational coachspeak 101. If you or I were the next man up, he'd be saying the same thing. The next time a coach says, "Oh crap, BigOrangeTrain is next in line for snaps...we're freaking screwed. That guy is awful and I cant believe we keep him around," to the media, will be the first.

I just want to hear official word. If it's meniscus then it's not a long term injury and we've just got to some how get out of UF with a win.

IMO , rewatched the VT game and Kirkland didn't look good. He showed promise as Freshman but not much last year . Unless he comes out balling this year he's one of most overrated players by our fans on team. Hope he gets better and become All SEC.

I'm not understanding why people think Kirkland was so great. I watched every game, and our defense was about the same with and without him. I think our linebacking corp is mediocre, period.

Are people supposed to sing "Everything is Gonna Be Alright" while holding hands? Player gets hurt, and the backup is a step down. Not to knock the kid, but Kirkland was supposed to be the leader on defense this year. Jumper just isn't good enough to take over a game. To be fair, Kirkland still had to prove he could be that good, but the potential is there. We know how good Jumper is, and while he's not worthless, he's certainly not an All SEC LB. He is a great backup, but just doesn't have the necessary physical tools to develop into the leader on defense.

Here's hoping it's just a minor injury the staff doesn't want to expose to Georgia Tech's infamous cut blocks.

Well...DKjr didn't play a down in beating Florida or Georgia...we lost JRM during the 1st quarter of the Florida game for the whole year...Cam Sutton didn't even take a snap in the Florida game and Georgia games...and the next man up did what they had to do. And we beat the Gators and the Dawgs...and that was before the injury bug started decimating the entire defense. But let's have an epic meltdown on here when 3 out of 4 most important players on defense didn't even contribute most of the season in our biggest games of the year...I'm just saying...

His clock is certainly ticking. The NFL is going to look at the body of work/production. They're going to see inconsistency and one injury after another. No way they burn a draft pick on a player like that. They won't take a chance on his potential and hope the injuries are behind him. Too many other players with proven ability and durability. He might get a camp invite but with each "set back" his light in the NFL grows dimmer.

So Bama has new coaches and unknowns which means we're sitting pretty...even though UT has new coaches and unknowns?

Only on VN.

You need to get some more coffee buddy. Everything in this statement was ass backwards. If anything CJ is one of the better field generals. He just isn't great at chasing people downfield, but he doesn't have to be. We have super athletes at corner and safety to chase down plays. CJ has to be CJ. Sit in the middle as a general and let NOTHING go by. He does that well. He is an excellent tackler.

Be careful pointing things like that out. People dont take to well when you point stuff like this out.

We do not have unknowns and our coaches are ten times what the alapansies have. All we have to do is get this Oline to mesh and we are golden.
