Tennessee head coach Butch Jones during a radio interview on Sunday evening said linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. remains without a timetable after suffering a knee injury during Friday's practice.
During an appearance on "The Nation" on Sports Radio WNML in Knoxville, Jones specified little about the injury to the Vols' starting middle linebacker.
Jones also suggested Tennessee could have another injured player available for the season opener against Georgia Tech in eight days.
"Right now he's still being evaluated, and we're going through that evaluation phase right now, so no timetable on him," Jones said. "I think we've learned that through the Josh Smith injury. There's actually a possibility that Josh could be available for the game Monday night.
After initially saying Smith was dealing with a collarbone injury he suffered during practice -- and that he didn't expect the fifth-year senior to play in the opener -- Jones on Thursday said Smith instead suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder and faced a timetable of one-to-four weeks for a potential return.
Jones is expected to provide further updates regarding Kirkland's status later this week. His next scheduled media appearance isn't until Wednesday.
