Kirkland Jr. out

I don't care if you go outside and hit your knees and cry. It isn't going to change the fact he's hurt. You use up so much energy to argue and worry I don't see how you make it through a whole day.

Perhaps you forgot what this website is?? I'm not losing any sleep here, but typically, if one wants to discuss all aspects of Tennessee Vols football, this is a great place to do it, and Freak is very happy that it is.

Nice false flag there.

The HC is ultimately responsible for managing practices and managing the health of his players.

Injuries do happen. So far IMO, UT's don't look abnormally high. Smith fell awkward and Hall apparently re-aggravated an old injury.

HOWEVER, the HC IS responsible for controlling the factors that contribute to these injuries. Jones has worked to improve it. If you were correct... why would he do that?

A few years ago the Missouri HC cut out just about all full contact at fall practices because of an excess of injuries sustained the prior year. Missouri went on to win the SEC East that year, mainly because their players were healthy and fresh.

I am not a big fan of putting players in harm's way in practice. In a game, though, they need to sacrifice their bodies to win.

I'm catching the tail end of this conversation, so forgive me if I'm restating something. Didn't DKJ suffer a non-contact injury? Do you recommend Jones eliminate the non-contact aspects of practice as well as the contact drills? Maybe they can just gather by position groups and play NCAA on Xbox or PS to hone in their skills.

I think that had a lot more to do with them having a lame West schedule and UT, UGA, and UF stinking at the same time.

There has to be a balance. If you don't hit then you won't know how to deliver or take a hit without getting injured. Obviously you don't want to do it to the point of getting people hurt.

The bigger plague on Jones has been soft tissue injuries. There are probably a lot of reasons but two of the bigger ones are S&C and the pace and intensity of practice. In the two August camps prior to '16, Jones made a big deal out of the breakneck pace of practice and pushing guys to their limits. That sounds good until that fatigue turns into soft tissue injuries.

Last year, he appeared to back off too much. The team was sluggish early in the season and not very physical. Guys like Hurd were allowed to take days off for their "health" which probably didn't help his attitude or the team's toward him.

In August, or maybe even after Spring practice, all of our starters (or as Butch would say - those individuals at the top of our organizational chart at the present time) should be put in a freezing chamber.
They should be unthawed 24 hours before Game One.

Ignont better be as good as advertised. This will mean more playing time for him.
Next man up....the faster, the better. Linebacking is our weakest position group,IMO. Be nice to see someone take the bull by the horns...Jumper bites on play-action over 80% of the time otherwise he can set the defense. We have 1 week to adjust. GBO!!!!!!!

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones during a radio interview on Sunday evening said linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. remains without a timetable after suffering a knee injury during Friday's practice.

During an appearance on "The Nation" on Sports Radio WNML in Knoxville, Jones specified little about the injury to the Vols' starting middle linebacker.

Jones also suggested Tennessee could have another injured player available for the season opener against Georgia Tech in eight days.

"Right now he's still being evaluated, and we're going through that evaluation phase right now, so no timetable on him," Jones said. "I think we've learned that through the Josh Smith injury. There's actually a possibility that Josh could be available for the game Monday night.

After initially saying Smith was dealing with a collarbone injury he suffered during practice -- and that he didn't expect the fifth-year senior to play in the opener -- Jones on Thursday said Smith instead suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder and faced a timetable of one-to-four weeks for a potential return.

Jones is expected to provide further updates regarding Kirkland's status later this week. His next scheduled media appearance isn't until Wednesday.

Hopefully a knee sprain. 🤞

Good news! Id hold out Josh Smith just in case. We shouldnt need him til SEC play

Not meant to pile on Jumper but it's always ironic that are most disciplined players always seem to be the one that is the least athletic. I think the discipline thing is way overated, Jumper is going to have to make tackles around the line of scrimmage and not 10 yards downfield. GBO!!!!

Middle linebacker is about the 2nd hardest position to play in football behind CB,IMO. UT is getting players ready to fill these voids. This position simply requires a little more time. Patience is a virtue. If a lot of you think Jumper is that bad, think of how bad it would be if UT didn't have him. :twocents:

Maybe this is the "suspension" cover?
I actually had that thought especially when i read of Richmond being "sick." Those two were mentioned in some podcast that got the rumors flying. Just one more player was involved and haven't heard anything about him yet.

Jumper had an "ah ha" moment vs. UF. I'll give the ginger pumpers that one. And only that one. The dude is NOT a top tier LB meant to be starting MLB for an entire SEC slate. If you think he is well then you need to seek medical help.

Who do you have in mind Einstein ? Just remember they have to read the offensive alignment and set the defense. I don't know why TKjr couldn't do that BUT APPARENTLY ONLY DKjr AND JUMPER HAVE THAT ABILITY ON THIS TEAM. Simply put it's bad coaching of not better preparing for these instances....

His clock is certainly ticking. The NFL is going to look at the body of work/production. They're going to see inconsistency and one injury after another. No way they burn a draft pick on a player like that. They won't take a chance on his potential and hope the injuries are behind him. Too many other players with proven ability and durability. He might get a camp invite but with each "set back" his light in the NFL grows dimmer.
The Lions took a chance on JRM. His shoulder injury had healed enough to allow him to play the last 3-4 games last year but he chose not to. Good decision. DKjr has stated that he came back last year at 65%. May have been better for him to redshirt after Va. Tech game. You are correct and he may use his wheels up early,(nfl scouting) if he's not careful.
