It's already been posted....we beat quality teams with Jumper in...V-T, UF, UGA. Should have beat TA-M and would have if CBJ had used trick play on last (PAT), fake extra point kick...lateral to JJ on end around and he has option to run ball in or dump it over linemen to Wolfe. That game would not have ended in tie forcing OT.Where I agree with the theme of your posts in this thread: Jumper is not the caliber of LB suited for the SEC. I've heard others describe him as the perfect fit for programs like Ivy League and Service Academies; I agree with those assessments.
Where I disagree: Shoop made his mark in the SEC at Vandy with an entire defense of Jumper-caliber athletes. Shoop not only competed but also came away with several impressive victories. UT's defense is more athletic as a whole with Jumper than the defense of Vandy.
You and I both liked the hiring of Shoop. I've cooled on him a bit after last year while you have remained optimistic. Seems to me if Shoop is as good as advertised, he can compete and win with a player like Jumper since he used to field a whole team of those kinds of players.
Those quotes from Butch make me a little more optimistic. Why bring up the Smith timetable (one that reduced from what was expected) if you expected Kirkland to be out a long time?
Guess we will know Wednesday
Hopefully our offense can "light it up" which means getting 3 score leads,(15-18 pts.) and we can get our younger, less experienced players on the field. Sadly, I've had that thought the past 3 years and barely beat App. St. and played Ohio close last year. Many players got reps against Tn Tech and some against Mo. but still that's not enough. If we do "cast them into the fire" likely to result in several losses.....and fire the coaches is all you'll hear on VN.Ignont and Bituli will at the very least match what Kirkland brought.what they need is game expirence. Learning on the fly, cast into the fire. Butch has shown a pattern of not playing the best player. Sickening.
good question......
He drew praise from Shoop the other day in one of the practice threads a week or so ago. I have to think he'll be a factor in the middle. Jumper may start but I can see Bituli and/or Sapp getting a lot of pt as the season progresses. I like Jumper and his heart but I think the youngster was exploited by USCe and Vandy last year and we'll see more Os doing the same thing whenever he is in there.
Either way, if CJ is the best option and he can't keep up
With SEC talent-CBJs fault
CBJ - "Jumper will be the next man up at the MLB position due to Kirklands injuries."
Volnation - "Butch doesn't know what he's doing. Jumper sucks!"
Chip Kelly or a different HC - "Jumper will be the next man up at the MLB position due to Kirklands injuries."
Volnation - "I trust our coaches to make the right decisions. Jumper will do great!"
Say what you want but this is clearly an excuse for people who don't like Butch, just so they can find something to complain about again.
Hearing speculation and had the thought myself that they could move McDowell inside if necessary.

GBO!!!!!!
Exactly. I know I didn't just dream that I heard all LBs should work on learning all LB positions.
I would be totally cool with Sapp-McDowell-A.Smith, or even Sapp-A.Smith-McDowell, though I have really been wanting to see the 2017 version of Bituli on the field.
Having said all that, if our coaches deem that Jumper is currently one of our best 2 or 3 options ... who am I to claim I know more than they do about what we have right now?

The reason he brought up Smith's injury was strictly for a reference point of why they're "still evaluating DKJrs injury". Obviously, the initial diagnosis and time out of the lineup was badly off, so they're being extra cautious about DKJrs injury. It wasn't to say "since Josh will perhaps be ready to play vs GaTech, DKJr may be ready too".
