Knecht in the latest ESPN mock draft

Reed will be exposed on the defensive end every nite.

He is only 19, and he's already elite in one of the most important skill the NBA looks for in guards today. I'm not saying he's going to be a star, just that because of that elite skill his floor is higher, which makes him a pretty safe pick. He's a good kid and a hard worker - it would be a surprise to see him not improve his overall game, and if he lands in a good spot he should be a valuable role player.

Love his aggressive nature as a scorer and his ability to create his own shot. He has a lot of moxie and a killer instinct that I wish more UT players under Barnes had. I don't like that it seems to be the only way he knows or is willing to play and I don't know how successful he can be with a good or elite perimeter defender on him. His quickness and cleverness does help. I don't watch much NBA any more but can you imagine Jimmy Butler or Steven Jackson in their prime guarding him? Hell, what about a guy like Mashack guarding him the entire game?

Dilly's ability to hit low percentage, contested shots is an asset but should never be the first option. The guys I mentioned would mostly shut him down because they don't leave their feet, are quick enough to stay in front or push him to the help if he does get by them and can put a physical beating on him. That's not even considering some of the smaller, quicker elite defenders in the league who will also be more physical than him.

Getting on a hot streak from very deep or having a coach who can create plays to get him open can help but that's not really his game or how NBA coaches typically draw things up today. Dillingham isn't an aggressive rim attacker and would not be effective in the league at his size even if he was.

Where I really dislike his game the most is that he is not a facilitator at all. I rarely saw him make plays for others or even really look to pass. That can be taught but would take time, doesn't seem to be part of his natural makeup so not sure he would willingly take to it and still doesn't solve the physicality issue.

I could be wrong but I just don't see him being effective in the NBA even as a microwave scorer off the bench. Teams typically keep a couple of good perimeter defenders on the bench to shut down guys like him that are potential instant offense.

He could be a great multi-year college player but as a professional I see him playing overseas or languishing in the G League for a few years.
Dillingham reminds me a bit of Tyrese Maxey, who is similar size and came in out of UK with many of the same strengths and weaknesses. Maxey has worked his ass off to improve his step back 3 and has developed a floater and a mid-range game, all things Dillingham will need to succeed at his size. Maxey also hits those low percentage shots like Dillingham.

I think he can make it in the league, but a lot will depend on where he ends up, the coaching he gets, and his willingness to learn from veterans like Maxey has, and how hard he works at his game.

Good points. He will certainly have a chance to make the needed improvements but I do feel like he's more likely to fail than succeed. Just my amateur opinion but I wouldn't bet a top 10 pick on him and I damn sure wouldn't take him over Knecht who has a much higher floor.

Still can't wrap my head around Reed Sheppard being the #3 overall draft pick. He's a great player, no doubt, but man #3 overall?? He is certainly a prolific shooter.
This class really lacks high end talent. Reed has a game that translates well to the NBA level. For some teams it makes more sense to take the sure thing over potential especially if you’re going to be paying them a higher rookie salary

Again, it's that age thing. NBA scouts and GM's are projecting where Dillingham can be in 3-4 years, when he'll be 23, not comparing him to a relatively finished product like DK. And they're comparing Knecht to players more his age, many who have been in the league for 3-4 seasons, like Anthony Edwards and SGA. NBA scouts might see DK's floor as being higher, but consider the potential ceiling of Sheppard and Dillingham as much higher, and therefore worth the higher pick.

They’re not that similar. A think a guy like Derrick White is a good comp for him. Fred Vanvleet isn’t a bad comp either

I like the Fred comp.

A weird thing about Sheppard though, from my perspective, is that he mostly shot when he was open. Didn’t seem to shoot contested shots much. Which I find a bit weird for such a good shooter.

Some even say it should only be worth one point 😂

Maybe uncontested 3s should only be awarded 2 points?

What’s he elite in?

So no one see's Knecht as a good fit with the Grizz?
The Grizz are in the big man market. DK could land with em if the best bigs are gone and he is the best available player remaining. He definitely fits their style of play.

Funny, but I could see Memphis taking Edey as a Steven Adams replacement. The freak has actually been testing well at the combine.
