I thought the same thing about a 6.2 guard before too. Jalen BrunsonDK is very likely to be a better player for a longer period of time than any of the other college players in this draft class. He is a bigger, stronger, more versatile player than Sheppard. And I saw him develop into a pretty solid defender.
The only area where Sheppard is possibly equal/better is 3 point shooting but at his height that's debatable and I don't see it. He is not a wizard with infinite range like Curry. Pro sports GMs can be really stupid at times and pass up better players for a hope and prayer on a lesser player. Unless Sheppard has a 4 inch growth spurt I don't see him ever being more than a specialized role player. Who gives a damn if he is only 19?
Which combine test did Edey do well at besides the height measurement?
He amazes me how he gets his shot off and his mid range game is second to none. He looks like a guy that you would pick up in a game at your local ymca . He sure does play a lot better though.
If Cling Cong (Clingan) is on the board the Grizz will likely take him over Edey.
Agreed. His determination and will are elite even if his athletic ability isn't.... not that it's bad. Old school mentality and toughness. He would have been a high level player in any era.
Imagine being the NBA GM that uses a lottery pick on Edey, lol! Surely nobody is that dumb......Zach Edey, Dalton Knecht among biggest stock risers at the 2024 NBA draft combine

If it’s the Kirk Hinrich prior to his back injury, he’d absolutely be worth a lottery pick. Hinrich was on the verge of being a star. Steve Kerr called him the next Steve Nash. He averaged 17 points and 6 assists his fourth year. Then the back injury happened and derailed his career.Same, I see him having a Kirk Heinrich ceiling. Which isn’t worth a lottery pick.
It’s a weak draft, so obviously he’s being bumped up a bit because of the overall lack of high-end talent. That being said, his shooting is off the charts and that alone will guarantee him a long career in the league. The only real question mark is the athleticism. I’ve never understood the Kirk Hinrich comp that draft “experts” keep throwing out there. Coming into the league, Hinrich was an elite athlete who could run like a gazelle. If Sheppard had that level of athleticism, he’d probably be the first overall pick.Still can't wrap my head around Reed Sheppard being the #3 overall draft pick. He's a great player, no doubt, but man #3 overall?? He is certainly a prolific shooter.
