Knoxville Restaurants

...or....maybe they just don’t want to?

Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg is the same way and they always have a line out the door. It’s clearly not a requirement.

(Sorry to litter the thread with talk of such a trashy town, my bank statement is still pitiful enough I enjoy it.)

I think I ate at Log Cabin Pancake most recently. It was mighty fine. At any rate even Pancake Pantry at least has an atm in the store.

I can understand the ATM inside method. Squeeze those that don't have cash for a little extra when they hit the ATM.

Asia Kitchen take-out with friends tonight: excellent Chinese. The restaurant was probably 3/4 occupied with Asian diners, which suggests to me that reviews complementing authenticity are probably accurate. The pho and all our entrees were very flavorful. Huge portions, and very fairly priced.
So they have eel farts??

My experience with PP was pulling in, seeing that 1) it's a drive inn pizza place (wtf?). 2) the sign that said cash only.

Backed up, pulled out and went somewhere else. Never plan in returning. East Knoxville is a **** hole as well.

Well, ultimately yes. It's really about the convenience though. If a restaurant is going to insist on taking cash only then meet the customer half way by providing a convenient way to retrieve said cash with an onsite ATM. If you've already placed your order and you really want the food you're going to use that ATM. You don't take cash only and then tell the customer to get back into their car and drive to some other nearby ghetto establishment on the same road to withdraw cash from an ATM.

Because I’ll probably never visit the Pizza Palace....I’m just saying it’s stupid in 2018 to be cash only. Someone else who goes there can show them all the less than 5 star reviews.

I’ll never eat there...

BUT HEY YOU GUYS LOOK AT ME I’M FREAKING PISSED THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!!!

So...wife and I will be up in May for our annual (and sometimes semi-annual) journey to the Holy Land. We stay in a cabin where the back porch is looking right at Mt. LeConte. I still have family in Powell, so we have no problem making the trip to Knoxville (love Downtown Grill and Nama).

(sigh) So my beloved bride has gone "no meat" on me, thanks to the Gentle Barn (and yes, we'll be visiting it while we're there), while Wautash loves him a nice, thick, medium-rare steak.

So...VN...my challenge to y'all is: is there a place within reasonable driving distance of G'burg where one can get (a) some really good seafood (which she will eat), and a really good steak (which I plan to eat)?

Mind you, this is the same woman who is deadly at 5 yards with her S&W .38, so hold off on the jokes about marrying a tree-hugger, or I will sic her on you...lol

I'll hang up and listen.

Go Vols.

Look at the menu's for Holston's in Sevierville and Trailhead Steak & Trout in Townsend.

I've heard of this place. Have you been there?

Yes, they're pretty good, not gormet, but a good steak and potato is not hard for a good cook. They have a window fronting outside into the grilling kitchen. They ask you to cut your meat when served to ensure you get what you want. Their trout plate has always been very good also. Just don't expect more than a well run Townsend steakhouse. Dancing Bear is more upscale but the wife and I prefer Trailhead.

Dang. We love Townsend, and stomp around there every time we go up. Love the back door in to Cades Cove, and then there's Appalachian Bear Rescue, the Artisan Bean, and Black Bear Café. How have we missed this place?

We will definitely give it a try. Thanks.

2nd the idea for Trailhead. One of the wineries suggested it to us. I’m a Peddler guy, but it was really good.

Trailhead was fantastic and had a loyal clientele until a few years ago, when it came under new ownership. It isn't nearly as fancy or good now.

Dancing Bear is a great recommendation.

If you don't mind driving, Foothills Milling Co in Maryville is amazing. Get reservations way in advance though.

I assume that downtown Knoxville is out of the question?

Well, if you're going to eat in Murravul, go to the Walnut Kitchen for their meats. A butcher started it and sources local farm raised meat. Great eating for beefeater carnivouraceous types like me.

Stop by MackyD's an get the wife a fish sammich an leave her in the car while you go enjoy.

Thanks for the info. Always looking for a new place to go with Mom & Dad when I visit Lenoir City. They love Elvira's in Wears Gap. Will have to add this to the mix.

We had heard about Foothills Mining Co.

Downtown is in play, but as you know that's a long haul from above G'burg, so it had better be special...lol.

Thanks for anything you can throw my way. We will be bringing a couple of family members with us this time, and we want to infect them with the same love for the Smokies / East TN that we have.

Go Vols.
