Knoxville Restaurants

Quite simply don’t go. But blaming the place for not taking cash and knowing that in advance is stupid and not taking responsibility for your own stupid actions by going and not taking cash

Blaming them and being frustrated they don't accept cards are 2 different things.

If I have the cash on hand I'll go to a cash only place. If I don't, the odds are slim I hit an ATM then go to that restaurant.

Pizza Palace is stupid for not taking cards. Same goes for any others. Gotta avoid that 2% processing fee; or they are cooking the books.

"One of the most often cited studies is one conducted by Dun & Bradstreet, where the company found that people spend 12-18% more when using credit cards instead of cash. McDonald’s reports its average ticket is $7 when people use credit cards versus $4.50 for cash."

There is something about $5 cash increments that our brains focus on. Whereas with a card I never pay attention because of loose change or single bills to deal with.

What difference does it make if it’s .89 or $890? Hell, I don’t want to watch some guy count out change for a coffee..

That may well cost the merchant almost as much in transaction fees than the cost of a cup of coffee...That's what difference it makes. Why the h3!! should they pay out .75 cents for your cuppa when you yourself are only paying .89...all 'cause you "don’t want to watch some guy count out change for a coffee"?

Lot's of places have a minimum of $5 or more on credit card purchases because they all pay every time you use it.

..."Transaction Fee. Merchants are also charged a transaction fee at a rate of 15 to 75 cents per transaction. A credit card processing company called LawCharge says the fee is required to obtain authorization to deposit the funds into the merchant's account."...

The fee is a %. There’s no minimum fee. It’s a flat rate unless they have to manually type in the card, which then bumps it up a point or so.

So if anything, merchants should want you to pay cash for bigger purchases, not smaller ones.

But it’s still packed as well as lunch house! I love it, so what you want as a business and the people can decide. They obviously have a good product and it doesn’t matter. I have no issue carrying cash. Always have like 20 bucks on me.

Oh I have cash. But it's at home in a safe. To be used in apocalyptic setting lol.

Swipe and go. Easier to keep up with tax write-offs that way.

Cash will be useless in an apocalypse. Take some out and enjoy a cash only place before then. Jesus, if you have cash in a safe then you don’t even have to stop at an ATM

Today's breakfast was $12.77, I walked to the front check out, handed the girl a $20.00. She counted out my change, I turned to my waitress and handed her a $5 and walked.
This transaction took all of 20 seconds.

I'll probably hit up Wrights for some meat and veggies at lunch.
I'll need to get there early or the line will be backed out the door. I'll need another $20.

Damn, this everyday living thing is complicated :)

Right....I’d have to go home and get in the safe....

Just plain dumb on their part.

And all of this is easier than carrying a card?

I should use a picture chart for you it seems.

(1)I have cards (two) that I carry. I use them for most purchases. Pay them off monthly and collect the points.
(2)I have cash on me, usually $60.00 - $100.00
(3)If the transaction is less than say $15.00 I'll most likely pay cash. If the location does not accept a CC, use $$$
(4)Paying cash is not an issue for me, it takes about the same amount of time for me. Obviously it's a hassle for high rollers like yourself.

So it's simple, don't patronize the establishment. Keep in mind , it's their business and who are you or me to tell them how to run it and they're stupid for not running it they way we want it ran.
Some of the establishments we're discussing have been in business for 40-50 years. People are standing in line and paying good money (cash) for their goods so obviously they've been quite successful.

Businesses can operate how they like. But when they are passing up ~14% more sales because they don't take cards, I'll call them stupid or say they are cooking the books.

Most of these establishments have all the business they can handle and most likely could care less about that "14" % #.
Cooking spaghetti and books for 50 years, :)

I wouldn't be shocked if part of that is people who are relatively poor who go to McDonald's with $2.19 to get a cheeseburger and a small drink. Don't know if that should fit into the equation as the way the information comes across is that all the people are willing to spend $7 but only spend $4.50 when paying with cash

Bottom line is that Pizza Palace has been there for about 372628 years and it’s good af, so they’ve got a winning combo.

So either pay cash, or don’t go.

Not trying to butt in here, but how often do you have to replenish your cash? Do you go to ATM's?

The reason I do not carry cash very often is that it is a pain to get and I seem to spend more freely when I have it.

This. It’s worth finding the cash.

That said, you should show us your recent bank transactions so we know if you’re a real baller and should be respected.

Occasionally, once or twice a month. It's not an issue, there's one right beside a Penn Station I frequent.

You spend more when you have cash? That my friend would seem to go against the grain.
It's my belief "some people" think the plastic card is an unlimited pot of money.
I could be wrong about that, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time.

Could probably interpret this a number of ways. They get larger family orders because they take cards. That bumps up the average. If that order can't pay by card, they go somewhere else. Etc.

I'm not saying anything about the product from PP or Louis. I'm just saying any company throwing away a potential 10-15% in sales is stupid. And both of these places could handle more business.

I wonder how much food Pizza Palace has had to toss because someone placed a large order and when the customer got there they found out it was cash only, didn't have it and just walked.

These places have been in business for 50 years. They don't care about food costs. /s

Here’s what some of their customers think about cash only...
