Knoxville Restaurants

I don't think I will be giving a second chance to Archers BBQ. This was the one on Kingston Pike near Fort Sanders little extension.

Archers ribs are terrible imo. Their pulled pork and greens are both really good though. I take out about once a week.

I agree about poor service. It's usually a couple of young guys who really don't give a sh!t. That's pretty typical of most youth nowadays though.

I show up about 7:30, tip well, and he hooks me up.

For the price you pay and the lack of any atmosphere, Buddy's BBQ is a better alternative if you can't make it to Dead End BBQ.

If nothing else Buddy's literally has the BEST hushpuppies I've ever had. I think they put crack in them.

NOOO! That's the one closest to me that I was going to try.

I still love the Chop House on Kingston Pike in West Knox. I always get the filet, medium rare, with baked potato. I think their salads are the best in town. I love how fresh they are and appreciate that they don't skimp on toppings.

This is the one we went to and thoroughly enjoyed. I think Doc and Bamacheats had bad luck the days they went.

Coug, give it a go. I am way easy going and don't demand much at all in the way of service, especially at a BBQ place but the one thing that sets me off is not getting any kind of greeting at all and being left to guess whether we seat ourselves, order at the register, etc.

We walked next door to the little Dragon's Den place. It was cheap, decent enough and the people were all friendly.

I'll probably still give it a shot.
Dragon's Den used to be our go to chinese restaurant when my family ate out, they have good chinese. We switched to Lotus Garden on Cedar Bluff because we also liked it and mostly it was a closer.

Another reason to frequent the Blackhorse Pub and Brewery

Too many beers to be good at any particular one. Food is average at best. Service was good. If I'm eating in the shopping center it's Hard Knox for me everytime. Or, maybe hit up the food truck du jour at Bearden Beer Market.

Didn't even know Knoxville had food trucks.

May be going to Hurricane Grill and Wings on Lovell tonight. Will update if we end up going there.

Did you go coug?

Yes we did! I really need another visit to give an honest review though because we went last minute with a party of 7 on a Friday night so we ended up on the patio which was not well heated. It was clear plastic covered with a couple stand up heaters on either end so it wasn't the most efficient setup, but by no means as cold as open air.

The 3 apps we tried were the conch fritters, the garlic parm fries, and the firecracker shrimp. I thought the conch fritters were really good, the shrimp and fries were also good but a few at the table couldn't handle the heat of the firecracker sauce on the shrimp. Not a problem with me!

The alcoholic drinks that were ordered all seemed to be well liked. I was the only one to strike out on that aspect. Was supposed to be a Mojito but came out as some kind of overly sugary concoction that got sent back.

I ordered the Yuengling beer battered fish and garlic/parm fries. HUGE piece of fried fish and it was good.

A few other things I got to sample:
Fried pickles, I thought were really good.
Plain fried shrimp, nice batter and medium sized shrimp.
Classic Coleslaw, not bad for slaw.

In short, I'd go back to try some more menu items and the different sauces they have. They actually had a table set up by the front door where you could try the sauces they have I guess but I didn't do that. Not sure how long they plan on having that set up.

Did anyone try the wings? That's my biggest concern.

I'm a big BBQ snob, and Bread of Heaven is by far the best in east TN to me.

On a different note, I think the best restaurant in the area is Foothills Milling Company.

I agree 100% on the bbq, best I have had in a long time. Foothills Milling Company is supposed to be outrageously good but more than I usually spend. Maybe for a special occasion some time.

Their website is on the fritz. Does their menu change daily or weekly?

Unfortunately not. Someone got an app as a meal that had a few of their boneless wings on it but I did not hear anything about them.

It really is one of the best in the area.

Try this: Foothills

I don't think it changes daily, but it does change a little from week to week.
My wife and I only go there once a year, and we try to do it a few days before Christmas. Going on Friday night, so I'm pretty excited for that.

Thanks, it is working now. They had a db error yesterday for that site. The menu looks interesting. I would probably try the venison and hope no one around me ordered cedar plank salmon! I ruined some salmon attempting that one time and will never eat it again.

Funny -- Salmon is about the only seafood that I just don't care for. Well, unless you count sashimi octupus.

When we last ate there, I had some kind of Australian venison chops, and they were just plain ridiculously-good. Almost purple in color with (IIRC) a port/berry glaze.

Word of advice: call WAY in advance for reservations. They book like crazy.

I'm there with you, so not a salmon fan.

Second this, and they're also closed Sundays and Mondays so keep that in mind.

I've never had venison in my life, so I have no idea what it's like.
Still not sure what I'm going to get on Friday. Considering either the salmon or the steak and potatoes.

I believe that is the only time I've had it, other than sausage (Seasons, Mother Earth Meats). Do not be afraid :) The staff is very helpful... Ask them what is great and have fun experimenting!

Just looked at the current menu. I'd be tempted by those panko-fried lobster tails or the pork and shrimp, but that venison is going to be great. I love spinach and warm bacon salad.

The Lobster tails are legit! Don't let the Sriracha aioli scare you it wasn't that hot and you can have them hold it or put it on the side if you're still not sure. The fried green tomatoes and the goat cheese tart are excellent apps. That's the same menu I think that they had several months ago when we went as far as I can tell.
