Knoxville Restaurants

So I'm getting my yearly date night in Knoxville with the wife while my mom keeps the kids. Looking for recommendations for a good local restaurant to try next week that isn't one of the regular places. Probably needs steak/fish for her but I'm game for just about anything

Say "steak and seafood" and I automatically think Connor's. Always great food, service, and the atmosphere is lovely.

I've never had a bad experience there but I rarely ever go there. No reason, it just never pops in my head. I love the Key Lime pie.

Wanted to try Highlands but ended up going to Connor's. Steaks were amazing and may be the best I've had in Knoxville for that price

Yes we did! I really need another visit to give an honest review though because we went last minute with a party of 7 on a Friday night so we ended up on the patio which was not well heated. It was clear plastic covered with a couple stand up heaters on either end so it wasn't the most efficient setup, but by no means as cold as open air.

The 3 apps we tried were the conch fritters, the garlic parm fries, and the firecracker shrimp. I thought the conch fritters were really good, the shrimp and fries were also good but a few at the table couldn't handle the heat of the firecracker sauce on the shrimp. Not a problem with me!

The alcoholic drinks that were ordered all seemed to be well liked. I was the only one to strike out on that aspect. Was supposed to be a Mojito but came out as some kind of overly sugary concoction that got sent back.

I ordered the Yuengling beer battered fish and garlic/parm fries. HUGE piece of fried fish and it was good.

A few other things I got to sample:
Fried pickles, I thought were really good.
Plain fried shrimp, nice batter and medium sized shrimp.
Classic Coleslaw, not bad for slaw.

In short, I'd go back to try some more menu items and the different sauces they have. They actually had a table set up by the front door where you could try the sauces they have I guess but I didn't do that. Not sure how long they plan on having that set up.

Hurricane Grill And Wings:

Thought I'd give a short update since I said I needed another visit. Well I went back with a friend of mine and we had a great visit. Sat at one of the booths right by the bar, it was later in the evening 9:30ish so it was pretty quiet. They apparently do half off appetizers every day starting at 10pm. The food was on par yet again. We shared the boneless wings meal, and I got a mild hot sauce for mine and she got a jerk sauce which I have to say I rather enjoyed. The fries were great which I'm stickler when it comes to fries. We also noticed they have some pretty good music playing in the background, it's a beach/island themed kind of restaurant.

Connor's has great food. Kind of reminds me of the J. Alexander's franchise. Chop House is another restaurant from the Connor's parent company, and is very similar.

I haven't look back too far, but has anyone went to Big Kauna's in Farragut? Wanting to go, but want some feedback outside of Urbanspoon before I do.

Chop House is not what it once was or at least that is the case of the one in Kodak. The last time we went there, several months ago, we decided we would not go back.

I'll vouch for the one in Knoxville still being very good.

BKW is solid. A little different style: more of a dry rub on the fried wings with dipping sauces, and they are HUGE. I graduated with the guy who owns it .

It looks like the wife and I will be trying Conners in the next couple of weeks thanks to all the comments being made about it.

I'll take Conners 100 times out of 100 over Chop House. Our last two experiences there have been sub-part, at best.

As would I. I know it sounds crazy, but I absolutely love the fish and chips there. I also have BBQ sauce for the fish, instead of the dill caper sauce.

I won't argue that. My family's go to is Connors.

Connor's is good stuff!

Go check out Dean's Restaurant in Oak Ridge on a Saturday night at 4pm. Their fried cod is awesome, and the wood grilled squash is one of the best things I have eaten in Knoxville.

Being a fish and chips fan I'd be curious to know what you think of Hurricane's Yuengling battered fish and chips. It's a huge piece of fish they give you.
