This guy was never committed. Didn't even bother to thank UT and the coaches.

Good thing this isn't phills recruiting class. Guys would be screaming how lazy and bad he sucked at recruiting! No reason our class should be this bad.

The only thing that is surprising is that it took him this long to decommit. The writing has been on the wall for a couple of weeks now. Looks like he goes west, and not to Bama, so thats a consolation prize. Not worried about this class though. This was always going to be a "depth class", and we still have some chance for some late surprises.

And our class isn't "down" because of class size. It's the guys filling in the few spots aren't too highly rated. So on paper it's a mediocre class. Butttt, 3 stars are 50/50. Some go on to be studs, and some go on to be duds. Just like 4 and 5 stars.

Actually, it's 5 Stars that "hit" 50% of the time.

4 Stars hit about 33% of the time.
3 Stars hit about 10% - 12% of the time.

2 Stars hit less than 2% of the time.

There are roughly 300 4&5 Stars every year. There are literally 1000's of 2&3 Stars every year.

That's what people fail to take into account when they talk about "success" as it relates to the star system.

According to 247, our class is ranked 24th in the country. Behind 8 other SEC teams. If memory serves, Dooley's class all ranked in the upper teens to lower twenties. This might be a rough year. I know Butch had two great classes, however, I can't help but wonder how much it helped to have the legacy recruits.

This class isn't done yet. Sit back and enjoy.

I know the legacy helped the recruiting rankings, but aside from TKJ and Berry it hasn't helped on the field.

Butch has gotten production from plenty of 3 stars. Actually, Butch has made his career on getting more out of 'lesser' ranked players. We will finish strong. And we will be fine.

I hate it that he has decommited, but like I have said before, we need players that want to be here and give nothing but 100% when wearing the Orange! Plus lets just see how this class wraps up in Feb.

Like Hurd? Barnett? Dobbs? JRM? Sutton? Malone? Robertson? Thomas? Tuttle? Hall? Wolf? Those names include the backbone of our team. Our prominent "legacy" recruits have been TKjr,Bates,KM and the Berry twins. Kelly has contributed (not as a primary starter) and Evan Berry is a return star. This "legacy" crutch has become just that for those desperate to explain Butch's dogged recruiting...just ain't true.

Or "one down year" obliterates two STELLAR versions? The. "history " he was referring to most likely includes 3 and 2 star hacks at his lower level stops...scrubs including Travis Kelce,Derek Wolfe, Eric Fisher,JJ Watt and Antonio Brown. Little boy football. :)

We seem to be like the dude jilted chicks use to make their jock boyfriends jealous. Once the jock takes her back, we're left holding the bag. What's going on with this recruiting class. Man, those few early losses must have had a major impact.

I hope Butch and crew learn from it.

Yup, I seen this too. I always expect things like this but it is still hard to understand how it happens, "giving your word" just does not have much meaning these days. Wish him the best.

I don't get it? How do we go from top 5 recruiting class two years in a row to an average class?

Depth chart.

We got those top 5 classes cause the cupboard was bare. Now it's full which makes it harder. What Nick Saban does is an ANOMALY. And it's why he has had such anomalous success. Even schools like Georgia or Florida State dip out of the top 10 every now and then when the depth chart is stacked.

I think we close strong and finish in the 8-12 range. However, folks need to realize we have a stacked team. And that's why recruiting is harder this year.

Look at how many teams have more commitments than us. By the time we get 20 signees, we'll be in the 10-15 range.

That does not explain why a stacked team like Ole miss is doing so well...probably 3 recruits in the top 10.
