Kongbo "rescinds" commitment

That does not explain why a stacked team like Ole miss is doing so well...probably 3 recruits in the top 10.

Their recruiting classes since that monster one they had with Tunsil and Treadwell have been 15th and 17th. This year they're losing a lot of guys from that big class to the NFL and have some spots where they can sell immediate playing time.

Just too much smoke with him looking all around....
Maybe he will come back to us in the end, but doubtful.

We just gotta keep on keepin on...sure would be nice to get a big commit right about now from one of the Georgia guys that we r after.

Ole Miss is not stacked. After that famous 2013 class, they're 2014 and 2015 classes were rated #19 and #21 respectively. They've played above their recruiting ranking. They've not been stacked.

They landed Greg Little this year because the LT spot is free thanks to Tunsil leaving. They landed Shea Patterson because Chad Kelly is a RS JR and sticks around for another year max. Now obviously depth chart isn't the only reason they landed these kids but it obviously helped.

Only Alabama gets a top 5 class every year.

In 2012, LSU finished #18 while signing 22 kids. Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2012 Team Recruiting Rankings

In 2013, Georgia finished #12 while signing 33 kids. Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2013 Team Recruiting Rankings

In 2014, Clemson finished #13 while signing 22 kids. Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2014 Team Recruiting Rankings

Everyone else has a year here or there outside the top 10. With that said, I expect we finish 8-12. Our average star rating puts us ~#15 and we have some big fish left. Land a couple of those, get to 20-22 commits and we finish 8-12.

I know the legacy helped the recruiting rankings, but aside from TKJ and Berry it hasn't helped on the field.

Butch has gotten production from plenty of 3 stars. Actually, Butch has made his career on getting more out of 'lesser' ranked players. We will finish strong. And we will be fine.

Great point. We aren't taking randomly chosen 3* players. We are taking players Butch wants, and if Butch prefers a particular 3* over a particular 4* or even 5*, I say that's probably a good choice. Butch has demonstrated to me that he and his staff are better judges of talent than ESPN or 24/7, especially inside of his system. The sky-is-falling recruiting experts on this site are getting tiresome. Besides... The class isn't finished yet. So folks would benefit if they just calm down.

Our recruiting class is going to be very bad this year. Doesn't make sense based in what Butch has done in prior years. And don't say size...most services only give you credit for the top 17 or so

Everything in this post is dumb. We still have a very strong avg star rating. Also, name ANY service that only counts the top 17 "or so" more ore less most. Rivals counts the top 20, which makes sense, but is also affected by numbers. If you take 30, then the top 20 is your top 2/3rds. If you only take 20, then you count that bottom third into your overall ranking. Seriously what on earth are you talking about?

I don't understand how we can be trending up as much as we are and struggling in the recruiting area compared to the last few years

Not as many legacies, not as much in state talent this year. If you look at the last two classes, CBJ first reeled in the in-state talent and legacies to sort of springboard momentum and built the classes from that. I think we're finally starting to see what kind of classes this staff is capable of bringing in once you take those factors out of the equation.

How stupid. If he ends up wanting to sign with us on NSD you wanna tell him no thanks?

Yes. Tennessee isn't desperate any more. Those days are over. Should want kids that want to be here. He has decommitted....look up the definition. Want kids who are committed..

Tennessee needs offensive linemen and secondary players the absolute most. Fill the needs FIRST!

I really wish kids would stop doing this. Make up your mind and stick to. Don't commit till you are 100% sure. My parents would never have let me do something like this. My dad would have kicked my arse.

I don't get it? How do we go from top 5 recruiting class two years in a row to an average class?

The shelf was bare. Players who signed knew they would be getting some serious playing time and they did. Now we are working on depth. Players aren't as apt to get as much playing time as freshman. It's a natural progression and with the exceptions of the Bama's of the world it's what always happens.

It won't be "very bad" (That's crazy to say a top 20 class is very bad) But its not the kind of class we need to bring in to stay on track without a down year or two. It's certainly a mediocre class by SEC standards at this point unless something changes.

Dools had top 20 classes and most on here would argue that Butch walked in to a team that couldn't beat Lenoir City HS.

I hate this excuse.

You have to recruit well EVERY year to win these days or we just get to watch Bama win Championships. We used to send more talent into the NFL than most any team in the country including Bama.

A down year is never ever good.

Would we rather have him once committed to us or be among the herd of those to have him never committed at all?

Reel him in on NSD Butch & Co!

When someone decommits, they almost never recommit. So, to answer your question, I would rather be in the herd, in this case. If he doesn't come here, I hope he stays out west.

That is an easy answer my friend. In years past, we had no depth and no real talent. So, we could logically go to any 4* or 5* recruit and sell the fact that they could play alot or even start as a true freshman. So, they came.

Go to "O Bama" and sit on the bench your freshman season. Play special teams your sophomore year and see the field in the 4th quarter when the score is out of hand. As a junior you could start IF Saban didn't recruit some younger stud in the meanwhile. Then as a senior you know the system and can play as a starter. That is Alabama's perfect scenerio for you.

OR

You can come to U.T. and play alot your freshman season.

Which do you pick? Hurd, Dobbs, Kirkland, Barnett, Randolph, Sutton, North all chose U.T. and they all played as freshmen.

We now have depth and can't sell early playing time.....

You are pretty unfamiliar with how the process works. Do we get in a hissy fit when we tell a player that we have accepted a verbal from that he needs to look elsewhere because we have a commitment from another player? It's not a commitment until a letter is signed......that hasn't changed in decades

West coast kid and will probably stay west coast. I am not shocked as I guess most of VN isn't as well.

They really need to change the terminology- this isn't the definition of commitment, verbal or otherwise
