Kongbo "rescinds" commitment

You are pretty unfamiliar with how the process works. Do we get in a hissy fit when we tell a player that we have accepted a verbal from that he needs to look elsewhere because we have a commitment from another player? It's not a commitment until a letter is signed......that hasn't changed in decades

This.
It just sucks being the one told "no".

I hate this excuse.

You have to recruit well EVERY year to win these days or we just get to watch Bama win Championships. We used to send more talent into the NFL than most any team in the country including Bama.

A down year is never ever good.

Nobody other than Bama recruits top 5 every year. Nobody.

Yes. Tennessee isn't desperate any more. Those days are over. Should want kids that want to be here. He has decommitted....look up the definition. Want kids who are committed..

Tennessee needs offensive linemen and secondary players the absolute most. Fill the needs FIRST!

Every team but Bama is desperate for 5* recruits and you don't stop recruiting them when they decommit. What world are you living in?

Our recruiting class is going to be very bad this year. Doesn't make sense based in what Butch has done in prior years. And don't say size...most services only give you credit for the top 17 or so

Size has a lot to do with it. UGA and UK are good examples, ranked 20th and 21st in Rivals rankings. UGA has 1 5*, 10 4*, and 3 3*, while UK has 0 5* and 4 4*, a bunch of 3*, and a couple of 2*. But UK has 22 commits while UGA has only 14 commits. So if not due to size then why is UGA only ranked 1 spot above UK? And UT has 7 4* commits right now, 9 3*, and 0 2*. So why is UT ranked 5 spots behind UK if not due to size?

Just saw this news. I have 2 initial reactions.

1.) He was never committed in the first place. At the time of his commitment he said he was going to take all of his visits and continue to consider other schools. In other words, his "commitment" was really an announcement that we were his leader and nothing more.

2.) I've said it, I'm saying it, and I'm going to keep saying it right up until NSD, we WILL finish strong in recruiting.

lol I'm sorry but did you say his career? This is big boy ball one down year in recruiting equalls 3 years of excuses

Give me a break. Just like usual, VN is overreacting. If there is anything to criticize Butch Jones about, it's certainly not recruiting. The man came in to a dumpster fire, has 2 top 5 classes, and people are still *****ing. Our society is doomed.

This will be the kid's third school in 3 years, he wants somewhere he can shine so he can go pro. He will be a 1 year lock and then leave. Won't get enough exposure at UT due to our depth.

i don't want to overreact to this, cause we're still in the mix for several big timers, and this will just be one of those years where we find out if Butch and co. can close late.

it's going to be hard for me to believe that a guy that can bring in two top 7 classes in a row, suddenly sucks at recruiting.

so i'll withhold reaction until after NSD.

Why? To appease the average college football fan?

I explained why; because it's not the definition of commitment.

It doesn't matter if you care about football or not- it doesn't make sense. There are kids that switch commitments between a handful of schools before actually signing. I guess commitment just means something different when it comes to college football.

And, don't get me wrong, I am all for kids finding the right place for them because every situation is different, but I feel the term commitment is a strange one in this situation.

It does and has for years. The issue here is on the side of those who just don't get that or refuse to understand that is just the way it is in college athletics and the recruiting process.

It won't be "very bad" (That's crazy to say a top 20 class is very bad) But its not the kind of class we need to bring in to stay on track without a down year or two. It's certainly a mediocre class by SEC standards at this point unless something changes.

There is almost always a future star player or two in the making in every class. Hopefully we'll find out that CBJ and Co. have a good eye for talent with great potential. The "star" rankings on young players don't always tell the full story nor can predict the future. The "obvious" best choice may not be the right choice.

Go Vols. Got to believe.

Not as many legacies, not as much in state talent this year. If you look at the last two classes, CBJ first reeled in the in-state talent and legacies to sort of springboard momentum and built the classes from that. I think we're finally starting to see what kind of classes this staff is capable of bringing in once you take those factors out of the equation.

I see that people wait for a possible down year to "see" stuff. :)

Back off the ledge people! You all ever think mama wants him to stay closer to home? He wasn't never coming here and his commit to the Vols was for national exposure and nothing else.
