KY loses 8 players--will the Vols take over the East?

I think Vandy will be in the discussion. I believe Ogilvy comes back as well. And if Jenkins can be more consistent, watch out. Just MHO though.

Jenkins was pretty effective in the 1st game against us - dude shoots lights out - and we left him several times because we were too busy with Beal..

I agree generally with what you're saying. It's not going to be a "take-over" by any means. However, I don't think it's legitimate to say we're going to be "leaning heavily" on all three freshman. Harris is the only one that will be leaned on. In contrast, UK will be "leaning heavily" on whoever you bring in because you guys simply don't have anything left. But I still don't think UT is suddenly just going to dominate the conference.

Exactly. Which is what I was trying to say from the beginning. I thought it was evident in my post that I was NOT picking UK to win the SEC. I said plainly that it was a 3 or 4 way battle. Just because I didn't agree that UT would "take over" that apparently meant (to the impaired) that I was saying UK is obviously better.

However, back to your point of leaning on the freshmen.... its obvious that UK will have to lean completely on freshmen. While UT doesn't have to lean on as many, your still going to lean on all of them IMO. You obviously can't lean on Hopson for consistent scoring (chism) or defense (prince). Goins will be decent at point, Williams will be a role player. I just don't see a great UT team UNLESS the freshmen (other than Harris) come through for you.

The draft experts say all 5 of them will go in the top 18 picks of the draft. (4 in the top 15) Is it safe to say that KY's team this year was the most 'talented' team ever? Even better than the fab 5? Yet, they also didn't win a national title.

Callipari should become recruiting coordinator and let someone else take over the X's and O's. It is inexcusable that they didn't win the National Championship with that roster. I can't believe KY isn't rioting over this. Almost any other coach would have won a title with that roster. He should at least have his salary taken away for this entire season.

Are all these players testing the NBA waters due to a possible strike situation soon? Will under classmen at other schools leave early to avoid a lower rookie cap?

Some players are nervous about it. If you are an underclassmen and have a chance to make the 1st round, they are basically leaving.

That is a huge driving factor, yeah. Thats why your seeing under classmen all over the nation declare. Some SHOULD be declaring, but others that are putting their names out there normally wouldn't, IMO. Names such as Jordan Crawford, Lance Stephenson, Paul George, Sylven Landesburg, etc.

Waiting for the 2011 draft could cause serious issues should labor negotations fail.

There is some sarcasm in that statement, but seriously I feel its most talented college basketball team ever. They didn't even make the final four. Callipari is awful as a coach. All the Memphis fans I know would agree.

Its ok to talk about deficencies as a coach, and shortcomings. Cal has plenty of them, especially on the X/O side of things. I talk about them all the time.

But you go overboard with completely illogical statements such as "any other coach would have" or "he should be fired". It just takes away from your credibility, IMO.

35-2(I think) and he should be fired? That's about the dumbest statement I have ever seen anyone make on here.

Did you guys underachieve? Without question. That was the most talented team in the 'AAs, and I truly did feel that Huggs schooled Cal in that elite eight game with the 1-3-1.

However, the dude has put UK back on the map, period. Going from 12 or 13 losses the previous year to 2 this year is pretty damn good despite the fact that the season ended prematurely.

Oklahoma City has as much talent as anyone in the NBA. You think they can win it all? Of course not. Experience matters.

I figure the NCAA will hit Kentucky with some kind of penalties. You know THE "master reqruiter" someone referred to their coach as; he is a cheater and scandal creator. We should contend in the sec, but I don't know if we will go as far in the tourney. Give it 2 or 3 years and Ashley Judd will be whipping Coach Cal's a** of Kentucky. I would love to see that. Heck I might even enjoy getting whipped by her myself!:bash: :moon2::post-4-1090547912:

I'm a UT & Memphis fan, being born and raised in Memphis & obtaining undergrad & grad degrees from there as well (Please refrain from cursing at me). I know many, many Memphis fans that totally agree with this. I heard it from Memphis area high school basketball coaches several times myself while Cal was still considered a god in this town, in fact. It is Cal's achilles heel, well, maybe that and the possibility that the NCAA discovers what he's been paying WWW all these years.

Please don't mistake things, I've been a Vol fan far longer than I have rooted for anyone. I remember when I was 2 and my dad watched Volunteer football games with me on his knee! I've watched everything and anything Vol ever since.

Hardwood, what you don't understand is that the SEC has a new rule to determine the conference champion. Josh Harrellson and Steven Pearl will play one-on-one with the first to 100 gets the title. I like our chances.

I think we'll be third in the east at best preseason, and maybe fourth if people buy into the KY hype train after Cal reels in another bushel of blue chippers. But with that said there's no reason we can't compete with anyone in the league next year, Vanderbilt included. That's assuming Alex Tyus doesn't lose his baldheaded mind and stay in the draft.

But for the sake of the thread, I will say this. Your not going to be "taking over" anything. Your losing ALL of your leaders and a lot of experience. While you are bringing back more than UK, your not exactly in a much different position.

You will be leaning heavily on a freshman class (Harris, McRae, Golden), and will probably stumble early as will the cats. Quite frankly, I think its a 3 or 4 teams race for the SEC next year, between the 4 teams from the east.

Will the Vols be a favorite? Possibly yeah. But its not a "take over" by any means.

Florida is the preseason pick right now but with losing Tyus yesterday, they won't be as good at the 4 position. As far as taking over, I expect TN will be better than Kentucky and with the experience returning, TN should have one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the conference. Don't expect this team to lean "heavily" as you say on 3 freshmen. I could possibly see Harris starting but we have a lot of experience in Tatum, Hopson, Goins, Williams, Pearl, and Kenny Hall coming back.

I would submit that TN will finish higher than the Cats in the SEC making it 5 out of 6 years ahead. Remember, Cal needs talent to win, Pearl doesn't. Enough said.

Kentucky isn't bringing back much in terms of numbers, but I believe a few of those guys will have big years next year.
D Miller stepped it up at the end of the year, I think he is poised for a breakout year.
D Liggins improved immensely during the season- is long, can play D, and the shoot the trey.
J Hood didn't see very much action (not surprising given who he was behind on the depth chart) but I believe learned a LOT in the process- he can shoot the lights out, and I think will have a very solid year.

With that being said- not many in East Tennessee gave much validity to the thought in summer and fall of '09 that Kentucky would be able to play all those freshmen and be that competitive, at least not right away. So, don't underestimate Cal, there is a method to his madness. If he didn't think he would be able to replace them pretty easily, he may not have encouraged them quite as much to test the NBA draft waters.

I will make peace and agree that he should not be fired or made recruiting coordinator.

Though, Cal has deficiencies as a coach, for sure, Kentucky didn't advance to the final four because they lacked an outside shot and shot a low free throw percentage.

Hardwood; How much concern is there from Cat fans about the recent level of player turnover(Cal's watch), and the possibility of running into APR rate problems down the road somewhere?
