The White House on Monday condemned “vigilantes” armed with “assault weapons” as the Kyle Rittenhouse trial wrapped up in Wisconsin.

I haven't dug into this in particular here but it's always been my understanding that such charges are viewed quite differently when associated with a self defense scenario.

That's a bit over the top; it could be both. An 'zero training' person doesn't put 6-7 rounds on three different targets and clearing malfunction while fleeing an attacking mob. He had firearms training in the local PD cadet program and had also participated in the FD cadet program.
