I don't know if this name has came up much here on VN, but what would everyone think about this hire if we do end up firing Butch? He is 108-50 at Utah and 10-1 in bowl games. His current salary is $3.3 million. Thoughts?

Sure, but if we're going mid-major why not stick with what we've got?

But he's a west coast guy.

I'd be good with him. I think he's a good coach and would probably be a good fit in the sec.

Utah is not a mid-major anymore. They are in the Pac-12.
And, at this point, I’d rather take my chances with a new coach than stay the course. Unfortunately, the current course did not work out beyond a single win over Florida, a couple of wins over UGA, three second-tier bowl wins, and what looks like at least a somewhat better roster than CBJ inherited.

My pro-Whittingham argument is limited to taking him over Jones.

My anti-Whittingham argument is that if we take anyone so long as they are better than Jones, we will likely be having this same discussion again in 3 years.

I want a tier 1 coach, no more mediocracy in our hires, unless we want to start accepting mediocracy on the field.

And if we want to accept mediocracy on the field, let's just keep Jones. At least our guys are getting good grades and staying out of trouble.

We don't need to be looking for a guy that can beat Saban and Alabama. That's going to be hard to find. Luckily, he doesn't have many years left, so his replacement will likely fall short of what they want and expect at Alabama, creating a strange atmosphere for years to come.

We just need to find a guy who can beat Kirby, Swamp Donkey, Muschamp, and Mason and get us to the SECCG. Once we finally get there, anything can happen.

Can Kyle win the East in its current state. I'd say maybe?

I too am tired of mediocrity and want a tier 1 coach.
If we hire just anyone, then yeah, we’ll be back here in 3-5 years.
But, I am tired of silly slogans, stupid pregame excuses, a garbage short yardage offense, a scheme that stays the same regardless of personnel, and lies to the media after the game. I want a football coach.
True on grades and staying out of trouble.

Whittingham took Utah to a BCS bowl and absolutely demolished a Nick Saban coached Alabama team. Our current coach can't even demolish the University of Massachusetts.

Great, good for him, he did that 10 years ago with Urban's players.
