'18 LA CB Brandon Davis (Tennessee signee)

If he really is a project, then he won’t see the field and will remain on baseball scholarship. We can’t lose.

I think even if he doesn’t see the field he has to be on football scholarship. I’m not sure the rule exactly though.

True, if he's on a scholarship, he counts against football.

15.5.9.1 Football. [FBS/FCS] In football, a counter who was recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.8) and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who participates (practices or competes) in football and one or more sports (including basketball) shall be counted in football. A counter who was not recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.8) and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who competes in football and one or more sports (including basketball) shall be counted in football.

Interesting that if not recruited he only counts if he competes (as opposed to practices if he was considered recruited).

15.02.8 Recruited Student-Athlete. For purposes of Bylaw 15, a recruited student-athlete is a student-athlete who, as a prospective student-athlete:

(a) Was provided an official visit to the institution's campus;

(b) Had an arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with a member of the institution's coaching staff (including a coach's arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's parents, relatives or legal guardians); or

(c) Was issued a National Letter of Intent or a written offer of athletically related financial aid by the institution for a regular academic term.

Exact rule. Doesn't count if practicing but not competing.

Maybe this means nothing. Probably this means nothing. Maybe I just have too much time on my hands and I tend to over analyze things.

But....

Usually after a player commits... at least one person on the staff acknowledges it on twitter.

This is Brett Thiesen after Jordan Youngs commitment

This is Kevin Sherrer and Brian Niedermeyer after JJ Petersons commitment

[twitter]https://twitter.com/NiedermeyerB/status/949755280463663105[/twitter]

Et cetera

There's been no acknowledgement from the staff (unless I've missed it) via twitter. Nothing from Terry Fair, his primary recruiter. Nothing from Sherrer, from Rocker, from Pruitt, nothing from nobody.

TIFWIW

Because he is a blue shirt due to baseball. He may get drafted and never set foot on campus. So they are doing the blueshirt so we don't get left hanging if he does. We can't show active recruitment

So basically, he’s a blueshirt just in case he doesn’t go Pro in baseball. Also might not have to come to campus as a football scholarship initially. This is a no-brainer take under these circumstances. If he’s good enough to start, then football scholarship at that time to count forward to the next class.

What’s not to like here?!

Boom.

robbing Peter to pay Paul. Especially considering that if he comes in he is counting against our "great" 2019 class after our coaches have had time to establish themselves and get in with the good prospects of that class.

The last staff was all hype, no results. I think this staff will care a heck of lot less about subtweets.

Sounds like it could be a blueshirt opportunity. The baseball draft is a huge factor with him as well. It doesn't appear that he will affect their numbers to close out the class unless they just come up short.

Guess I should trust CJP's evaluations of DB's based on his history but it seems like we're reaching for prospects now. I mean if Colorado State is who we're poaching recruits from, guess that says something about the state of our program at the minute. It's gonna take excellent player development to jump start it again, then a return to elite recruiting and on-field success will follow.

Ugh, we beat out Colorado St for a 5'11'' Corner. Unfortunately this likely means we have missed elsewhere.

So much CSU hate in here. I seem to recall a 5* receiver that everyone of us was hyped for a few years back who's now at CSU.

None of us know what CJP sees in this kid (I saw nothing special in his tape), but Pruitt is supposed to be the authority on DB play, so its hard for me to write this kid off.

Don’t worry about that for this class. We’ve got a real coaching staff now. They’ll coach these kids up and get more elite guys in 2019 and on (so long as they win obviously)

But can they coach them up like Saban and Kirby coach 5*s? We're reaching here. We always try to build up lower tier recruits.

This isn't Butch Jones. Pruitt knows DBs. Nick Saban reached real far when he gave CB Levi Wallace a scholarship in 2016. The same Wallace who shutdown his opponents last year and made 2nd-Team All SEC. Guess who coached him?

Why not wait until after Signing Day to hear from Pruitt himself about this prospect instead of assuming the worst on misses? Unless I am misinformed, Davis-Micheu was not recruited on OV. He may not count on the class total according to insiders; though he may count on a future class depending on his future status with the football team. He is also a prospect for pro baseball. He may play baseball here in the meantime. He may also turn pro. This all remains to be seen. Either way, he did make 5A All-State in Louisiana and had a career 13 INTs.

That's a bit different. His recruitment out of HS was power 5 SEC programs. He ended up there due to transfer and having a relationship with Bobo in recruiting. I think davis is solid player just a bad example
