'18 LA CB Brandon Davis (Tennessee signee)

There’s a possibility that he could sign with us and then get drafted high enough in the MLB draft to play baseball and forego college altogether. He would still count against this years class.

Too much of a risk here, IMO at least for this year. We need all the spots for immediate depth.

I wonder if they have a deal in place where he doesn't sign any paperwork with UT prior to the MLB draft. That way, if he's drafted, he wouldn't be a counter and UT still has the scholarship.

Mods on VQ and 247.

Davis just posted full scholly...sooo that affects the board. We can’t take 3 more CBs lol. I think they took his commitment on the heels of Eddie Smith naming Bama his leader but I can’t imagine us not getting a bigger name at CB this cycle with what Pruitt brings.

Affects overall board but not the position is the way I took it. Pruitt will squeeze in 3 CBS if he has to. Thinking Palmer is their S/nickel recruit

We only have the ability to take 22 or 23 from my understanding so with wanting 1-2 more DTs, Q Walker, and another WR/RB playmaker... I saw 2 CBs being the most we’d add. So to me he just took 50% of the CB spots available unless we cut Litaker and lose Grant to UNC. Then I could see another CB.

Don't forget special teams too. Perhaps there are a couple guys who may be looked at to contribute on the kick/punt teams. Dude is an athlete. He'll find a role.

247 nor Rivals show him on the football commit list yet. I think he is going to sign a full scholly with the baseball team. That's why he was on an "unofficial" football visit. Especially since he could go MLB draft. Too big a risk for him to sign an LOI for football. If he gets to campus and eventually plays in a football game...THEN he will be an initial counter for the Football team...probably a 2019 initial counter.

Well that is interesting.

He couldn’t participate in Football activities while on a Baseball scholarship.

Football is the higher Revenue sport. If he’s playing both, his scholly counts towards the sport with the higher revenue.

Someone posted the NCAA rule book on this topic a few pages back.

If he was not "officially" recruited by football (ie, no official visit and no off campus visit with coaches), then he could practice with the football team while on a baseball scholly. However, once he competes in football (plays in a game) then he has to be on a football scholly.

If he had come to campus on an "official" football visit, then you would be correct. He would have to be on a Football scholarship if he practiced with the football team.

Davis visit was an unofficial so if things fall a certain way he may be a blue shirt and if they don't then he is regular.

This guy is completely different from the other kind of DBs Pruitt has been offering. Much smaller. This is kind of puzzling.

Most likely, we are striking out with higher rated prospects, but Pruitt can still find some lower rated prospects that can come in and contribute. Will it suck if we miss out on guys like OG and Eddie Smith? Absolutely, but it happens in recruiting. Pruitt is trying to form relationships fast and furious in a limited amount of time while selling a new school. Right now, as a fan base, all we can do is let it play out. Hopefully next year will be better.
