'24 LA DL Dominick McKinley (LSU commit)

Agreed…when you include transfers this class has impact and depth at every position except interior DL…i think it has solid depth there but I’m not sure anyone is unquestionably an impact player…this guy would change that which takes it (as you said) from solid to elite

This staff failed miserably with interior DL recruitment this year. How many times is it going to take for fans to stop salivating over these Louisiana kids only to come up empty.

its obvious they like who they have on campus. the transfer successes show me when we really really recruit someone hard, all in. We can compete at a very very high level, in the bidding.

We didnt have a great year at HS ranks. Time to move on. Get a transfer, for the love of humanity. Got to, absolutely got to lock down Utley. Then Hall.

Kid said we've been recruiting him longer than that.

Harbaugh hired an Agent with deep NFL ties and experience. NCAA is still investigating. To some, not all, writing is on the wall.

They may not want Brian Kelly. But if Meatchicken is able to put up with Harbaugh's weirdness, why not Kelly?
Harbaugh hired Don Yee weeks ago to negotiate his extension with Michigan. This isn’t the breaking news that Shefter and some CFB reporters are making it out to be. Even if Harbaugh does leave, Kelly won’t be a candidate. John U Bacon, a guy with more ties to the UM athletic department and booster community than anyone else on earth, says the chances Michigan would pursue Kelly are basically zero. Even if Michigan were interested, I’m not sure Kelly would leave. LSU is a much, much, better job than Michigan.

It’s a lot easier to get to the playoffs at Michigan than LSU. He would leave if offered.

Because it’s a Louisiana kid committed to LSU. I doubt Brian Kelly is the main draw for him.
exactly it is not like we have gotten 5 star LA kids. Be real here we were always on the outside looking in. Some battles will not be won and LA kids are a battle.

I don’t get the hand wringing

Guy stayed home - if this guy was from Nashville, I’d be concerned

Tennessee has landed two out of state 5-stars this cycle (Ross, Matthews) and went after many others - more than I can recall in a long time. kudos to them for trying.

On to the 2025 class…

Making the playoff isn't the goal, it's winning a national title. If Kelly only cared about making the playoff, he'd still be at ND. He left because LSU gave him a better opportunity to recruit the level of athletes you need to win a title. Michigan has the same problem as ND. Maybe today will finally be different, but in the past few years Michigan has played both UGA and Bama, and looked like they didn't belong on the same field because they were overwhelmed athletically.

I wonder if that was true in the old SEC, but he’s concerned it’s not true in the new SEC.

The combined power of Texas and Texas A&M recruiting to the SEC in that region has to loom large in the minds of LSU coaches going forward. I could see a scenario in which LSU’s star dims a bit in the years to come.

Texas in particular is going to be a problem for everyone in the SEC.

Even if we hit on DL next class, which we really need to do, I doubt they'll be ready to contribute a lot as freshmen. We'll have to hope to get lucky in the portal. I think a lot of people are only thinking of next year, where we'll be fine on the DL. But we'll lose a lot after next season. And the 3 DL we signed in this class are projects. Hopefully they turn into studs but signing at least one blue chip DL would have been nice. Having a weakened DL in 2025, Nico's second full season as starter, would really suck. To outscore the other team, you have to be able to stop them from scoring.

I agree, but this is their gameplan.

He probably committed to LSU while not wanting to play for Kelly. He could leave for Michigan and would still stay I’m sure.
