Hey guys! I've been reviewing our current list of prospects that we have committed thus far and I cannot help but realize the lack of playmakers that we have committed, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Does anybody else see this? I see a solid class, but nobody that really stands out. IMO, lack of playmakers has been a real problem at UT over the past 5-6 years. Signing at least 1-2 players per class that can change the momentum of the game and score really quick is definitely something this team needs. I was really impressed with Derek Dooley's ability to sign Da'Rick Rogers in 2010 and I sure hope he has something up his sleeve for the 2011 class. Signing quality, impact playmakers year in and year out is extremely important in college football if we realistically want to get back to the top. Tennessee cannot afford to take any signing class off. I sure hope all of these three star recruits pan out. I guess we will see. Go Vols!

This class is gonna be a rebuilding class which includes a lot of offensive and defensive lineman. You gotta have somebody to block for the playmakers or it makes no difference how many you have.

If we get Arnett and Dallas, and we just added Young.... We could have some playmakers.

Devrin Young is NOT an SEC caliber player I hate to break it to you. I know we are "Vol" fans and it is hard to accept, but there is a reason he has zero college offers. I do not even think the Stanford offer is legit anymore. Not to say that DY is not a good HIGH SCHOOL player, but I think some on this site forget how huge the jump is from high school (Esp. Tennessee High school) to college (SEC by the way). It is a really huge jump, in all aspects of the game. Devrin Young is 158 pounds. He literally looks like a child in your avatar and he does not have the frame to add much weight. I really do not think he will amount to much. He is more of a Sunbelt Conference type of athlete. So please do not put him in the "playmaker" category because wishful thinking does not count and only gets you "moral victories" in the long run, which UT has had plenty of in the past few years. I am talking about legit playmakers. Hopefully Dallas and Arnett sign with UT.

Ill take Dooley's assessment of talent over yours. For some reason I think he is a little more successful at it than you are.

I know it is hard to take The orange glasses off guys because we want UT to be successful so bad, but at some point you have to. Dooley could sign a freaking female to play for us and if she was from Tennessee you guys would be in support of it. Yall make me laugh because yall are the same fans scratching your head when the big boys run all over us year in and year out and you blame it on coaching. Ever wonder why Tennessee always falls just short of beating most of their quality opponents? It is because you can only coach up mediocre talent so far. At some point you have to have the studs. Ever wonder why John Chavis has the best Defense in the SEC this year thus far? It's because of the playmakers on the field.

This class is a majorly rebuilding class so OL and DL come first. We signed quite a few last class so in order for them to shine at their peak we have to have the OL and DL as well as depth and that is what we're doing. Also, we just got Young and if we get Dallas that will only add to the playmakers we signed last yr. I'm hoping we get Buie too. If we got all 3 as well as the OL and DL with depth things will work out. Not to mention Smith and Worley aren't scrubs.

Travis Stephens wasn't much bigger his Senior year in highschool. never know what a guy will do.

I hope you are right about Buie. He looks pretty elusive in his highlight films. Just because we signed a few playmakers in 2010 does not mean you let up this year, most obviously because over competition never lets up. I truly cannot stand Lane Kiffin, but the one thing I liked about his recruiting was the idea that he had a relentless pursuit year in and year out of always signing quality, explosive playmakers. I want that mentality to stay in Knoxville.

Very true on Kiffin. However, this staff doesn't give a damn about recruiting sites and rankings. They've been known to be great evaluators and if you really look at our class you'll see that the 3*'s aren't your typical 3*'s. They're very solid and some could very well get a 4* bump. We have 3 OL, 2 TE, 1 QB, 2 RB's, 3 DL, 2 LB's, and 3 DB's committed. You add another OL, 2 WR's, 2-3 DL, 1 LB, and 3 DB's and you've got both sides of the ball filled in one class with quality depth. Not a bad class IMO.

You take this same approach every yr and each yr you add more and more 4*'s and you'll see a drastic change with this team within 2 yrs.

Okay now that I got my laugh for the night over with.

1) This is a rebuilding class for the trenches, this class is'nt going to look sexy by any means to most people but IMO this class will be looked back upon in 5 years & all Vol fans will say it was a SOLID class.

2) We have playmakers commited right now, Devrin Young will make plays when he gets the chance. You might not think he is SEC caliber but the kid is quick, shifty, & very elusive. Everyone was whining about not having a great return man & now that we have one everyone wants to fuss about him.

3) Vincent Dallas is a VOL LOCK! Go watch his highlights, if you dont think that kid can be a playmaker then you've lost your mind.

4) On the defensive side of the ball we have a playmaker commited in Brian Randolph, the kid is vastly underrated. He should be a 4* easily, he will be a ball hawk once he steps foot on the field

Is this class filled with playmakers? No & it wont be on NSD but you add the few from this class with Hunter, Da'Rick, & Neal & we've added speed, talent, & playmakers back on offense.

I know people want the flashy 4* & 5* players, heck I'm with you on it but I see what Dooley is doing with this class. He is building a foundation class for the future, he is taking kids who will have a impact on the program (maybe not huge impacts but will contribute) & who will QUALIFY & NOT leave! This class will add much needed depth for this team. Now if next year were sitting 24th in the rankings & we only have 2 4* commited I might start questioning the staff a little but not with this class not when we have a chance to still land some very very good players.

Exactly JMoore. Every position that I mentioned above that we could fill with a certain number of players is exactly what we're doing. This class is a foundation class and the players we're going to do that with it will be a very solid foundation.

Nice argument. I will buy most of it. Just one question. Do you think that we are leaving ourselves enough wiggle room to actually sign the best players come NSD?

The stars will come. Because this is a foundation class we're not going to have 15 4*'s but the 3*'s we're doing it with are more than solid. That will lead to quality depth and a solid rotation, something we don't have this yr. You take that and you will get more wins and that will equal a solid season, not BCS bowl, but solid. We will then get more 4* than previously. You take the same approach of adding more depth at every position but this time with more 4*'s and eventually we're back.
