I'm hoping they will play match up zone and really pack it in when we play SC. Our only chance to win is to make them best us over the top.

The Vols should take a page out of UConn's book. UConn is the only team to beat South Carolina this year, and they did it by playing man-to-man defense the ENTIRE game and face-guarding Mitchell. Why not use a game plan that is proven to work against South Carolina?

At the time she committed, Mercedes Russell was already in orange. So the only reason she would be contending for a starting spot at Tennessee is because of the injuries to Russell and Harrison, not because of rotation.

True, but Harrison and Ibiam are both seniors. In comparing the freshman seasons of Russell and Coates, where do you think there would be more playing time?

Oh well, spilt milk....

Nia needs to play now regardless of how bad she does, she atleast has 5 fouls to give which could help us come Monday with someone like A'ja Wilson & Alaina Coates who are very poor free throw shooters. If we have any chance of making it to the Final Four we are going to need all the post help we can get and right now we have no real 5 but we can get away with playing just 2 players there (Moore and Graves) and this should provide more playing time for Nared & Dunbar at the 3/4

Holly Should Consider this lineup the rest of the way

PG-Reynolds
SG-Massengale
SF-Nared
PF-Graves
C-Moore

Because Moore will likely not see much time and Carter and Burdick will why get early fouls on Burdick by having her play out of position when you can allow Moore to pick up those early fouls since you don't envision playing her much anyway. Starting Ariel gives us a shooter and she needs to be told to shoot the 3 if she is open, I don't want her to think about it, just let it rip (Call up Meighan Simmons if she has any questions) I think this is the perfect time to see what our 3 freshmen are made of as Dunbar can really help us from the outside also. I still see us as a Final four team with the only teams I think we will struggle with is UConn and SC. I believe we can beat ND, Maryland, and Baylor without Izzy but to beat SC (possibly 3 times) and UConn will be tough. Hoping Losing Izzy will be the motivation these girls need to get back to the final four!

Everyone leaves Andraya Carter out of their lineups? She is our best defense.

I'm leaving her out as a starter because you don't need her to start when she's going to play the most minutes of possibly all the Guards. I also don't need her defensively against against Sessions of SC and I can get away with Reynolds guarding Mitchell until Carter enters. I need carter for the quicker Bianca Cuevas who can light it up. I also think having Carter come off the bench makes her hungrier when she finally gets in the game. And the same reason I gave about Nia you rather have reynolds picking up quick fouls because you have someone on the bench (Carter and Middleton) who could possibly give you better production at the PG position. I would love to see us try to play Reynolds more at the 3 also instead of the 1. Especially with Izzy being out! I think Jordan is a far better rebounder than she is given credit for and can play around the rim. Which would allow us to strickly play Burdick at the 4 while playing Reynolds and Dunbar at the 3 and Nared at the 3/4.

I wouldn't be opposed to a lineup of this if you (or Holly) felt it was better;

PG-Carter
SG-Massengale
SF-Reynolds
PF-Graves
C-Moore

After the first subs then you can go
PG-Carter
SG-Massengale
SF-Nared
PF-Burdick
C-Graves

This will allow you to then bring in

Hindsight is 20/20. White would have to decide who she would have a better shot against, and Russell on paper was the tougher prospect than Coates when Jatarie had to make her decision. Plus, with Graves having 2 more years, that was another player she was unlikely to bypass in the rotation. Ibiam and Welch are gone after this year, so that leaves the high post wide open for Jatarie for next season.

Better to have Moore on the court matched up with Ibiam than Coates. I think that guarding Coates and trying to score over her will be the toughest challenge for Tennessee in the SC game. Tennessee's frontcourt needs to be ready to box out and rebound when SC has Welch, Wilson and Coates in at the same time.

It's really unfortunate Holly lost out on Jatarie White to Staley. While she sits on the bench as South Carolina's third string post, she would be contending for a starting spot right now at Tennessee. While they wanted her, Holly needed her....

Unfortunate, for you. Great for us.

Uh, I would say the high post is pretty much spoken for the next three years.... and not by White.

Yes Wilson will play the High Post with Coates on the block, White will sub for Coates and wont become a starter until her senior season (when Coates has graduated) unless Dawn decides to play Wilson at the 3 (which might be better suited for her since she doesn't really like contact) Wilson 6'5", White 6'4", Coates 6'4" would be scary and that would be the only way white plays at the High Post is if Wilson is moved to the 3 next season.

Short answer? You don't have UConn personnel. Your bigs man to man w/o Izzy will be mismatched all night long. Carter could face-guard Mitchell, but who keeps Bianca in front of them, then? It worked for UConn because of Mo Jeff AND Chong.

I also think now she is probably reconsidering her decision knowing now she could possibly sit behind coates for 2 more season unless Staley moves Wilson to the 3 once Welch graduates

I dont.. She committed BEFORE Wilson, and then helped to recruit her to the team. They've both admiited to talks of playing together. With the departure of Ibiam, she will have more opportunity to play. Face it, we've got three great posts for the foreseeable future. Holly better start getting some too.

How are you doing? My wife was a Tenn graduate, so I was on the paid site. I thought I dropped by here too. Yeah, we got stomped by UConn no hiding from that, for us, or for our future opponents either.

Who was the last "Post Player" to lead their team to a NC? Griner right and she is 6'8" when the time comes for the tournament you have to have great guard and wing play to make it to the final four (Simms, Diggins, Maya Moore, Lloyd, Stewart) Staley has never had problems getting Post players (Candance Dupree and Kamisha Hairston at Temple) and as a former PG she has struggled with landing top Guard talent! I'll take Russell, Graves, Moore, Jasmine Jones, Nared, and Dunbar next season over Coates, White, and Wilson! Where are your guards besides Bianca and Mitchell? Oh not to mention we are adding Te'a and Diamond next season to go with a glue player in the likes of Welch for yall in MeMe Jackson. SC better win the title this year or they probably never will! Staley had recruits fall in her lap what has she done since? There aren't many players that will choose SC every year over Tenn even without Past at the helm.

That depends on how Dawn decides to use A'Ja.

This is what I envision. During the recruiting, Wilson made it clear that she didn't want to play in the paint. She even refers to herself as a guard. I think that she will be the starting wing and backup at 4 and White will be the starting 4 and back up post. She should easily be getting 25-26 minutes per game. If she was at Tennessee, she'd most likely only be backup for Russell, with Graves, Jones and Nared getting the bulk of minutes at the high post.

This statement is packed with false information. #1. SC has not had top talent before Coates. #2 Coates, White, Wilson over any frontline not named Stewie, Tuck, Mosqueda-Lewis. #3. SC is closer to getting a title than Tennessee is. #4. You are lucky that Deshields and Cooper did not choose SC over Tennessee (those were the last two schools). Could you imagine if they had? #5. We'll be fine for 2016 in recruiting, can you say the same? Although, in 2015 we've added Shay Colley(who may not be an elite guard using ESPN standards) but she is the starter for U18 Canadian team. 6. Worry about Bama, before you get to Columbia.
