Lady Vols Conflict

I can't help but believe that CPS would have a solution to this problem or at least change something. I will always remember when she locked the team out of their dressing room because the way they were playing they were not worthy to use the same facilities as the other great players of the past. As I recollect the team got better quickly before she let them back in. Kicking butt and taking charge sometimes works.

Oh yeah that "butt kicking" totally did it. Wait, Pat locked the team out of their dressing room during the 2008-2009 (baby vol) season in which the team dropped 8 of their last 15 games (many after the lockout) and was eliminated for the very first time in the opening round of the NCAA tournament by Ball State. Turns out the team needed more than a butt kicking; it needed experience and a healthy Vicki Baugh would have helped as well.

But, the myth that "kicking butt" leads to great results and hence any poor results are due to a lack of "butt kicking," will not die. Heck, we don't need a basketball coach; just grab a retired drill sergeant and he can kick butts to the NC.

You recall wrong. None of the silly antics of taking away the locker room or making them wash their own uniforms or taking the player's name off the back ever worked. Pat did a lot of good but those moves were not a bright spot for her.

Again, this article would be much easier to dismiss if Holly was actually bringing in players. Recruits, JUCO's, transfers.... NOBODY wants to play here anymore. When did this unprecedented drought start?

Sometimes where there's smoke....

I agree we do not need just a butt kicker, we need a coach who can inspire buy in from the players. Coaches must be motivators as well. Butt kicking in and of itself will not correct issues but add in some good coaching and strong leadership a lot of issues can be resolved. The head coach must be confident and that must come through in all facets of the game in coaching, interviews, and recruitment.

Okay let me understand this logic. The conflicts on a message board, with people of all walks expressing different opinions, are a clear indication that there are locker room problems among the 12 or so women on the LVs.

You realize that all message boards are divided like this whenever a team is not living up to expectations. What goes on in the realm of fandom does not automatically translate to a team.

You might as well say, "well there must family conflicts in the home of such and such player or coach because the people on this board can't agree."

Oh well, you believe what you will believe.
Hey try rereading and then try understanding what you read. Then try making an educated answer. I never said the message board was the reason these girls can't get along. My God half the people on here only read into what they see because their little brains can't digest life.

How ironic that you invoke the belittling "reading comprehension" card by misconstruing my statement, as evidenced by the quoted passage. For the record, your original post was this:

If anyone doesn't think there is a chemistry problem with this team. Look at this board. Half the members on here can't agree. And we're not in the same room. Imagine these girls with each other every day

So, again your stated premise was that people having conflicts/disagreements on this board is some kind evidence or support ("look at this board") that there must be conflict among the LVs who are in closer quarters. I pointed out that this is a poor analogy because the dynamics of a message board are entirely different from those of a b-ball team.

Of course macho bluster is the way of message boards, but it is really okay to sometimes say, "yeah, maybe that was not my best idea." Peace out cwbytruckers.

I agree with you. In those last few years, Pat lost some of her motivational magic, perhaps due to illness. During that time, it frustrated me no end, that the blame was always placed on the players being "spoiled" and the staff never seemed to consider what they needed to do differently or better.

That season was also the exact same time that Nicki Caldwell took the UCLA job and I think that left a huge void between the coaching staff and a very young team.

It is worth noting that Glory and the gang put together a really strong campaign the next year but ran up against Griner during their championship run in the great 8 match-up; that was a very tough draw.

I was not trying to burn or injure anyone's feelings at all, just explain.

By the way, it is "you're a joke" (apostrophe version of you are). Your is the possessive version of you, as in "your defensiveness is quite telling" or some similarly structured phrase.

Good night, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite. :hi:
