Lady Vols Game Thread vs Louisville NCAA Tournament

Its obvious this team really needs to bring in a really good shooting coach. I hate bring up that team up north but yiu cant help notice that every onr of their players shoots the same way everytime. They clearly have a great shooting coach.

They don't have to be the head coach,,,,But that type of presence is what this program was built on. And needs.

This is what happens when you don't have good, fast guards. This team would look totally different with a fearless, fast point guard.

No it wouldn't. Those fresh from high school players need to be coached to greatness. This is college now, not HS and they need to be developed into the college game. Holly & Co. have proven they can't do it! The players we have now would be a winning, dominating squad under a different coaching system. I'm sure there were many who said the same thing before Shields and some of the others came on, but look what resulted. Now when these new recruits come in and Holly is losing again, some on here will go with the "this team is lazy", "they don't want to win" excuses, again!

Not to mention a coach for the centers. No reason at all that Russell has been wasted the way she has! Some call her lazy and maybe that's a part of it, but it doesn't look like she's been developed/motivated at all! It's like "Ok Mercedes, just do what you did in high school, stand there and try to rebound the ball".

I did not see the game but stats are telling.

First, there is NO excuse for DeShields having only three baskets in any game--period. She got 9 points from the FT line--but three baskets for a player with her skills? Only at UT.

Second, Russell had only 9 shots. Whether the problem is her or her teammates or our crap scehem, she's got to have more than 9 shots.

Third, Russell was terrible on offense. She's seldom very good, but the PG has to be able to pick up the team in key spots. She's never been able to do that. She and Jackson couldn't throw the ball in the ocean.

Fourth, teams play as they are coached.

MR's jump-hook is a jump-hook-"shot". You don't square your body on the release of a jump-hook. Your body should be perpendicular to the goal on the release, hands and head turned towards the hoop, fingers out on the release, not goose-necked.

She should have been taught a counter-move too. With a go-to shot like a jump-hook, you have to have a counter-move. That way the defender can't lean in one direction. (e.g. left-pivot = jump-hook.....right pivot = fade-away) . With Mercedes ability to shoot the ball from above her head (Like she does on her foul shots),,, This open the door for a natural "Patrick Ewing" fade-away.

I so hope Diamond DeShields and Mercedes Russell come back next year. The biggest thing that has killed us this year is no speed, with Te'a Cooper, Evina Westbrook, Anastasia Hayes and Rennia Davis we will have a lot of speed and agility next year, and some of these girls can make a lay-up and stretches the defense to the arc.

From what i saw tonight it was a lot of standing around and indiviual basketball. Will this be corrected next year? If i were the coach the names come off the jerseys! And we are practicing in TBA here on out running stairs until we get it right. Im giving the greenlight to make out offense better. Teams like Uconn and Baylor will run up the score on you and wont bat a eye. We use to be that way until we got soft.

We will know soon! Women have to declare by April third. If not before!
Why would DD come back?
1. Play one year with Tea????
2. Play with some REAL AA players???
3. Get an advanced degree ???

All these scenarios are interesting but I don't think she stays!

I hope Mercedes goes!!!!!! I do not want them ( new kids) playing with her and eminulating any part of her game! Hopefully we get at least an Assistant that can teach them something.

I've calmed down now..on bright side is we have scorers coming in,can't wait to see what green is going to do,te'a will be back and jus hope DD cedes come back but I think cedes already answered that in the press conference

From the look I saw on Tisha's face during the game...I'd be considering what we will look like without her in the mix, right now. . . .I think the only way to sway her and her family to another year, is to enact a significant change.

Even with those top recruits, if they don't understand "offensive-flow" it will be a duplicate of this year.

While the UK men suffered under the pathetic loser Tubby Smith for all those years it was for the same reason that Warlick is still at Tn...Political Correctness.

In both cases a legendary program was reduced to rubble.

Warlick gone is the ONLY fix for the LV's

I'm missed it...

Did Russell suggest that she might leave?

Tisha DeShields. It looked like she was recording the game on her cell phone. Almost as if she wanted to memorialize her daughter's final college game. I think she's as good as gone.

I read the post-game conference, and didn't see anything she said suggesting she would leave, but my hunch is she's gone.

She's probably already deleted that sucker. Just wasting GB's in the phone.

In MR's post game presser she talks about using this season as motivation for next year. Did anybody else catch that?

Probably FaceTime the game to someone.

Yep, to me it says that she's back and Diamond is probably gone -- might be reading into it too much, but it seems that way:

Q. Question for both of you. Both of you are juniors, and you'll be coming back next year.
Knowing that you'll come back having another shot getting to the pinnacle of all of this, how
bitter is this one to lose?
JAIME NARED: It's frustrating any game you lose. It's the end of our season, so I mean there's
nothing we can do about it now. I think we're going to get in the gym and get ready for next
season.
MERCEDES RUSSELL: Yeah, just off what she's saying. It's definitely something that we're
going to need to learn from. So we'll just take this feeling that we have right now and use it for
motivation next season.
