Lady Vols Recruiting Info

I know Rae Burrell is coming Friday for her official visit and I certainly hope the staff seals the deal, but, in my opinion, the Lady Vols still need a solid post player in this class. I don't know about any juco posts that may be available, but I think that the last two prospects other than a juco player would be Ezi Magbegor, the Australian phenom, and Stephanie Soares, the 6'6" post currently in Texas.

Magbegor seems to be having a hard time deciding between following a basketball career with the Australian WNBL and coming to college in the States. As recently as October 21, the Canberra Times reported that she was "still weighing up her options between continuing her WNBL career or heading to a United States college next year." I know that at one time Tennessee was in the mix for her. Does anyone know if this is still the case?

Soares is somewhat of an enigma. There is very little that I can find that indicates any status on her recruiting or college interest. It appears that the family has been very active in mission work and that the young lady became involved in organized basketball much later than most of her contemporaries. The result is that she appears to be something of a "project", although every report I have found says nothing but good things about her attitude and her progress. And, she has the one thing that you cannot teach! Does anyone know if the staff has followed her at all and whether there is any mutual interest? I think a 6'6" post, with a significant upside, in this class and then a 6'6" post (Kamilla Cardosa) in 2020 would be fine additions to the program!

Just looking for information.

There is a center at Gulf Coast State that depending on what she does this season should move up the rankings of most WCCB coaches. She averaged a double double last season in high school and has a great basketball body certainly needs skills improvement.

Her name is Dominique Banks 6' 5" will only be a juco freshman this season still a player to keep an eye on.

They are currently looking at JUCOs. I think Burrell is the last 2018 that Tennessee is waiting on.

There are always graduate transfers too.

Hearing rumors that Balogun commit was under duress ??? Georgia Tech. Was someone else’s wish???

So Elizabeth Dixon and Elizabeth Balogun both verballed to Georgia Tech? Did they play on the same AAU team?

I was really hoping Elizabeth Dixon would become a Lady Vol. It seems she eliminated TN pretty early though.

Good luck to both.

I know she has been looked at by the coaches. Coach Reeves has a really good relationship with the HC at Gulf Coast.

Yes and I think they both are of Nigerian decent and to my understanding there is a substantial population of Nigerians in the Atlanta area

I found it strange that Dixon and Balogun decided on Georgia Tech but Balogun’s decision was made by her parents who aren’t in the states, Dixon’s parents are in the states

Georgia Tech has a pretty decent class nonetheless

More than likely her parents, I don’t see her decommiting though, unless you’ve heard something we didn’t

I think she lives with coach??? Parents are not in the states! Will she do what parents want? Real close friend with Jasmine (you can tell by watching them before and after games ). And during games they are always looking for each other... especially Jasmine at point waiting for Balogun to get open!!! I don’t think she wants to go to Ga. Tech. But parents are parents???

I don’t think she wants to go there either, I think parents made the decision, I truly believe her and Jaz wanted to play together at UT

Will be interesting to see if she signs during early period if she’s haven’t second thoughts

There is a 6'4 post out of Alabama named Alexis Leggett. She is a bit skinny but the girl can play and she is available for pick up. YouTube the name and check out the video for yourself.

Another post I've seen Dene Mimms. She is a 6'3 post that went up against Kalani Brown in a high school game and held her own even block Brown's shot a couple times. She reminds me of DeWanna Bonner. Long, agile, can shoot the 3 ball.

Leggett has verballed to SMU & Mimms has verballed to Tulane, both are imo 4’s in college and with Mimi coming in next year which would be Green’s final year and Davis ability to play there I don’t think the coaching staff views a need for another player at the 4 spot in the 2018 class, 2019 class for sure! The Post they are looking to add would be a 5 dueto the departure of Russell and KK being a freshman in this class they’re looking for her back up

I think post players period is a need. Why put davis there as thin as she is
if you can get other players that are true 4 or 5 players? She's a tough kid and should be able to handle it but don't put her body through that if some1 could be brought in. Jones was capable of playing the 4 when she was here but her body paid the price for it with those concussions.

Jones got a concussion running off a screen and got hit in the head in practice ... nothing happened in the post.

Jones was a 4 anyway and not a 3, the coaches tried to transition her to the 3 and to me it wasn’t wise (but that’s just my opinion)

With Green having 2 years and MiMi Collins coming in next year and Harris and Davis having the ability to play there in a pinch you don’t have to have 2 four players in this class!

We got MiMi Collins so our need essentially would be at the 5 spot since we’re losing our 5 (Russell) and KK is her replacement but you then need someone to back up KK!
(Because Harris may be another Nia Moore)

I agree about Jones. She was a 4 and I always felt like we double recruited bringing in Jones and Graves.

I disagree. I always felt that Jones had the height to play post, and I'm sure she played post in hs, but to me she was not an SEC post player. She had her moments beating slower posts off the dribble, but I think the coaching staff realized she wasn't a SEC post and tried to experiment with her at the 3, which didn't really work...as I'm writing this I realized we're both right. Jones was a small/thin post (but just didn't have the size against the bigger ladies)
