MATCH CENTRAL: Tennessee at Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. - The Tennessee soccer team is set for a road contest at Georgia for a 6:30 p.m. ET Friday match at Turner Soccer Complex.
Tennessee (7-3-3, 2-2-2) is looking to bounce back from consecutive losses to No. 6 Arkansas and No. 9/14 Auburn.
In their last match against the Tigers,
Jenna Stayart and
Reese Mattern found the back of the net for the Big Orange.
Stayart's goal, assisted by
Sammi Woods, was a strong left-footed strike from the top of the box.
Mattern gave Tennessee its second goal via a header off a corner kick from
Sarah Bridenstine.
TRACKING THOMAS: Thomas, who enters her final season on Rocky Top, currently ranks second on Tennessee's all-time goals list with 39 and sits just four back of Kylee Rossi's program-best 43. The three-time All-SEC player and 2021 All-American appeared in just two matches last season before suffering a season-ending injury. During the 2022 season, Thomas scored 13 goals and posted the best goals-per-game average in the SEC at .68.
PUT 'EM ON NOTICE REESE: FreshmanReese Mattern was slated as a Freshman Midseason Top 100 by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Charlottesville, Virginia, native has started in all 13 matches while notched two goals and three assists. Mattern currently leads the squad with three assists and 21 shots.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Last time out, the Bulldogs tied Florida, 0-0. Georgia currently sits in a four-way tie for sixth place in the SEC. Georgia's goalkeeper, Jordan Brown, currently leads the SEC in saves (89) and ranks seventh nationally. Margie Detrizio leads UGA with eight goals, 18 points and 42 shots as Summer Denigan leads the squad in assists.
MATCHUP HISTORY: Tennessee is 19-11-1 all-time against Georgia with a 5-8-1 record against the Bulldogs in Athens. Last season, UGA pulled out a 2-1 win over the Lady Vols on Oct. 13, 2023.
