Lady Vols Softball Team Game Thread week 5

I watched the game on replay. After reading some of the early comments in the game thread I was sure TN lost LOL.

Arnold pitched well but her strike/pitch ratio is still low - .62. Some of this is due to Karen calling the pitches more cautiously now that SEC play has started.

McSwain isn't the catcher Lockman is but she did throw out two runners stealing. Unfortunately the umpire called one of them safe.

Nice to see Gregg hitting again. Vines made Ralph look like a genius dropping her down in the batting order.

If TN does not complete the sweep on Sunday it could mean the youngsters still have a way to go mentally. But if they do complete the sweep, it only means TN held serve against a winless SEC team.

It was good to see a nice crowd on hand for a televised game. I'm sure the warm weather helped.

One other thing I am noticing - TN is much more vocal in the dugout than they were early in the season. They are chanting, dancing, clapping, and look happy. I like it.

I taped and now have watched the Auburn and Florida game. I will say that we will have trouble staying with either of those teams. This is the first time I have seen either this year but they both look good. Florida started the left hander tonight. Their catcher is also a good looking left handed catcher and it looked strange seeing that combination. I don't remember seeing that before. We really need to sweep OM because things are warming up a lot in the near future.

Luckily we only play Florida not Auburn. We play Florida at home and I figure the hope is to steal one game as they are dominating on the mound and a good offensive team as well. Road games left Kentucky, LSU, and Texas A&M anything from 3 and 6 up will be fantastic. Home games Florida, Alabama I figure 3 and 3 there would be a very good showing. So that is why sweeping Ole Miss was and is very important gives us a 6 and 3 record with the hope of finishing 6 and 9 for a 12 and 12 record. I don't see us doing much better and we could definitely do worse.

Agree with everything you said. I knew we were not playing Auburn but just comparing them. Kentucky beat Arky and LSU and TAM as you know are great as well. If we could get 3 and 3 at home as you mentioned I would take it today. Pitching still suspect for us as has been in past several years. Hitting SEC pitching must improve as well. Defense adequate but base running errors have hurt this year. IMHO!

Line up is out and Scarlett is starting at catcher
Moss is pitching
Vines and Geer switched in batting order

I hope Scarlett can make the throws and play defense today

Sweep get out the brooms Lady Vols get the win!!!!! SC beat Bama 14 to 0 makes our 9 to 1 loss not look so bad.

Nice to get the series win and sweep. I'll post more later after I have a chance to watch the replay, but for now suffice it to say that I was fearful the team would lose this game because they're so young I thought they might lose their focus. That didn't happen, at least for the two Megan's, and that's a good thing.
