If these girls couldn't figure out what it means to play as a team, hustle, box out, work hard... they definitely won't be taking this loss hard. Heck, during the selection show Summitt said in front of the whole team that this generation is harder to coach -- they don't have a work ethic, drive, desire. Don't you think that would motivate them?
Well, if softball isn't looking good, I'll have to wait and see what Lane Kiffin can put together... and meanwhile suffer through UConn and Coach Donkey Hindquarters winning another title.
Really???
These girls don't get it. They're not a team. That's been one of Pat's biggest problems this whole season. There's a huge disconnect.
or doesn't work hard is utter nonsense--complete idiocy. They were all playing hard tonight--everybody. The bottom line is this this team lacks talent--it's too big and slow at all positions. PS has not recruited well. Stricklin can play--but she is NOT a pg. Bjorklund has skills but she lacks quickness and is asked to carry too much of the scoring load.
But that is typical of Summit: She is clueless about coaching TEAM offense and so always wants one or two naturally gifted players to carry the team's offense on their back--as Parker did. That is not acceptable for a team, or coach, that has a bench full of (supposed) All America's. Bjorklund was forcing shots all night because the team offense is bad and nobody else except Stricklin can score. The situation is made worse because Bjorklund and Stricklin are tall and have to chase around smaller, quicker guards on defense--which has to wear them out before the game is close to over. With a young team and nobody of Parker's talent level, and with injuries, it got ugly this year. PS needs to reassess her recruiting--seriously--this is not a one year thing. The Vols BADLY need a good point guard, for starters, so Stricklin can move to shooting guard/small forward.
Again, not been a good year for ANY major Vol sport. PERIOD!
You do realize that every starter on last years team is now in the WNBA. Too many challenges placed on these young girls. I can't believe that the announcers kept saying that these young girls were defending national champions. The program yes, but not this group of rookies.back to back Championships, seniors gone, and injuries and a young team
fyp.
Ladies track won the indoor national championship.
Softball is ranked #6.
Men's tennis is ranked #4, just beat auburn and alabama on consecutive days, and beat the #1 ranked team in the nation earlier in the year.
Soccer team won the sec tourney.
UT sports is more than just football and basketball (or, for some people like hat, football and men's basketball.) All you have to do is take the time to look and you'll find something good. Period.
That wasn't the plan. She was supposed to have Parker for her senior year. Baugh and Cain were supposed to have a year under their belt along with Bjourkland. Injuries and Parker leaving early made this a much different team than Pat had in mind. When you lose three of your horses and replace them with true freshman, this is what you get. They don't know enough to care yet, but I bet they learn real soon if you know what I mean. They have the talent, now all they need is experience and the hunger of wanting, not hoping for, but really wanting a championship. How did CPS let her recruiting get her down to all freshmen????
