Lady Vols vs LSU

You obviously don't know softball if you think winning is easier at LSU than A&M :eek:lol::eek:lol:

And you obviously didn't understand I was pointing out that A&M is a better team than LSU. Reading comprehension is a thing.

Then again, you were the one that took up for the Fagan family, so I'm not really shocked that you don't know what you're talking about.

I hope A&M and LSU get to play each other in the SEC tourney and you'll see who the better team is...A&M SEC schedule is a joke....anyone who knows softball and has been following can tell you that...A&M is ranked so high because of the tourney run they had in California...then they had a cakewalk of an SEC schedule with no Florida, Bama, LSU, or Auburn....but please continue to tell me how great they're

Like I said the Fagan's have always been nice to me outside of softball....so I'm not going to throw them under a bus

I'll say this - Arnold has grown SIGNIFICANTLY since her first SEC series vs South Carolina.

Also, the defense is better than most in the league.

With that said...the next 6 games are going to be the difference between a top 8 seed, or holding on to a top 16 seed and hosting a regional.

The next six games plus the SEC tournament are pretty much all about put your money where you mouth is for the team. The rankings will sort themselves out after that. There is every opportunity for this team to get a 4 or 5 seed in the tournament, and on the flip side, get knocked down to a 14, 15 or worse.

Question for some of you that follow softball more than I -

why does the pitcher look at her wrist notes on almost every pitch? I don't follow the game as much and have wondered this for a while. I could see it happening once for every batter, but it looks like our pitcher checks it almost every pitch. Just wondering.

They look at it to decipher the code that Coach Karen calls out to determine what pitch to throw next.

Actually they check it every pitch. Some teams still give signals for pitches from the dugout to the catcher who relays it to the pitcher through hand signals.

Memo to Ralph: Let your players have a rip on 3-0 counts from now on. Nobody on the team does it, which makes me think this is a Ralph rule. Against florida, 3-0 pitches might be our best chance to get hits all weekend. I don't think you can count on getting a walk and then two hits. We might scratch runs in various ways--but the coaches need to tell Gregg, Geer, all them to swing away at 3-0 if it is a pitch they like. Maybe we get a dinger this way.

I would not let the slappers do it. McClain has made outs 2 different times on 3-0 when she did not have to. Maybe most others but for sure Vines, Gregg, Seggren, even Scarlett.

I had no idea that McClain--of all people--has swung at 3-0 pitches. I have not seen her do that--I haven't seen any UT player do it--and I can't imagine why she would. She's the LAST player on the team who should swing 3-0. Yes, our best hitters and potential power hitters should be given a green light. If Gregg, Geer , McSwain, Vines, Rowland, maybe a couple of others get 3-0, they should guess pitch and location--and if they get it, take a freakin' rip. Walks are a good thing, but you get let a good pitcher groove one and not take a hack.

Love Lady Vols Softball, hate the hitting philosophy of the coaches. Players are too passive with the bats. Only free swinger I see in the lineup is Vines. Come on coaches, let the bats go!

In my opinion, this cost us a National Championship with Abbott. I say "let her rip tater chip."

The NCAA also released its "Top 10". How this relates to the RPI index, I don't know. Tennessee 9th in this one.

New RPI out. Tennessee 10th.

http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d1/ncaa-womens-softball-rpi

Through Games APR. 23, 2017

1 Florida
2 Arizona
3 Washington
4 Auburn
5 Texas A&M
6 UCLA
7 Oregon
8 Florida St.
9 Baylor
10 Tennessee

Hopefully we can pass 2 of these and get in the top 8. I don't understand the RPI. I know it's your opponent and your opponent's opponents and ......... I don't understand.

I don't have time to check every team ahead of us but let us take Baylor as an example. They are 1 spot ahead of us. We have won 41, they have won 36. We have lost 6, they have lost 9. They lost 2 to OK and 1 to AZ, good teams. Here are the current RPIs of the other 6 teams they lost to: 29-52-60-62-80-113. Here are the current RPIs of our 6 losses: 13-15-24-26-26-34. They have some good wins. We have some good wins. They beat up on some podunks, we beat up on some podunks. But look at the RPI of 6 of their losses. How are they ahead of us?

JMO but believe we will need to win the series ( 2out of 3 ) with both Florida and A &M to host both Regionals and super regionals.

I don't think they will go strictly on RPI for seeds and if the tournament selection was today, Tennessee would be a national seed

Could be. It's interesting that a lot of the teams in the RPI top 10 play each other the last few weeks. We play AM and FL. Florida St plays Oregon 3 times and FL once. Arizona and UCLA play 3 times. Oddly enough Baylor, who we are closest to, has the easiest remaining schedule of the top 10. They play 6 games against teams in the 30s and 1 against a team in the 100s. Not sure how that will affect RPI. On paper they have a better chance of winning out, but will the wins or the lower RPI of the opponents count more?

LOL I feel the same! Take Washington as an example. They are three in RPI and 6 in top 10, but they've lost 10 games. At some point in time you would think that losing games would make you drop in the rankings even if the games you're losing are to the New York Yankees.

Our RPI will definitely go up by playing florida and texas a&m. I'm not sure by how much, but we should most definitely rise by a few spots in RPI. How we fare in the rankings of course will depend on our record in these next six games. Voters, when there are voters, will take account of our RPI/schedule, but winning of course will be crucial. Florida will be the real acid test.
