Lamarcus Coker (Merged)

Say whaaaa? Didn't you know that Coker runs a 2.7 40?

:) Well just to make my point clear I think Coker needs to get carries but I don't believe he is going to be a 25 carry a game back he's not built that way. Give him 10-15 touches a game maybe.

I can't agree or disagree with that considering we haven't really seen him carry the load yet. We'll see.

It won't be as easy to run around UGA's and LSU's speed in the secondary.

Exactly ! So when The secondary is so hell bent on coming up and tackling Coker, play action pass should give us 6 on the board to Swain, Meachem, Rogers or Smith !

With the talent of our receivers, any secondary will have their hands full if we have a strong running game!

WHAT?! He's the same size as Hardesty, maybe a little taller. UT's had a lot of 5'11 200lb. backs who carried 25 times. Give him 25 carries and watch what happens.

Coker is not as tough between the tackles and does not break as many tackles. Plus he tends to put the ball on the ground more.
Don't just spout what you've heard people say. Give me an example of when he hasn't run hard between the tackles or has put the ball on the ground in a game.

When he really gets in a groove...I believe he's on a different level than Hardesty. I think people need to stop trying to pick him apart and just enjoy watching him run the ball. He may be one of those who people talk about for a long time.

A.) Coker looked pretty damn fast in the game, I thought (and he has run a 4.30 and a 4.28)
B.) What's the point?

The point was that they were comparing the combine 40 times of Hardesty and Coker. I dont understand what comparing those times means. Since those times were recorded Hardesty has had major knee surgery. Plus, those 40 times mean very little when there is that small of a difference because game speed is different. Hardesty is fast, and was probably faster before the surgery. But, obiously Coker has an advantage in game speed. If you would wipe the Coker-colored brown off your nose you might be able to understand I was supporting your statement and you snapped because you are overtly opinonated and non-objective on any issue about Coker.

Unfortunately, the game is much more than track and field. Coker is the fastest RB on the field. Great! So far he as done amazing and I hope he keeps it up. But, blocking and fumbling have been problems at practice. Those parts of the game can quicly negate any amazing speed he has. Maybe those problems are fixed and he will not have those problems in games, if so he is going to be a great back at UT.

I wasn't snapping...I was simply asking a question. I agree 100% about 40 times. I think they are very overrated. MY point was..Coker's game speed looks quite a bit faster than Hardesty's.
As far as your little "brown" comment...you can stick that up your :censored: . My only bias is toward the, obviously, better player.

"the, obviously, better player"

Oh, ok. I mean yeah thats obvious. Since you are someone with football knowledge equal to the likes of John Madden (but just choose not to enter the profession because you know so much it would be too easy for you) and you attend every practice and workout conducted by the UT football team. I mean the coaches who have been HIRED as top-tier D1 college coach and see the RB's do everything at every practice are OBVIOUSLY nowhere near your football IQ on the issue of who the best RB at UT is. There are so many people on the message board like you and it cracks me up. You take one little thing and think you can understand the whole situation based on small facts that you think makes you an expert. HE IS FAST, VERY FAST. You want credit for recognizing that??? There is so much more that goes into being a great RB than being fast. Your entire argument has been Coker is the fastest person on the planet so he should definately be the best RB in the world. Its laughable. I sure do remember how awesome at football the track star was a few years ago, what was his name L. Scott? He is setting the NFL on fire right now isnt he?

P.S. This statement is in regards to the ridiculous narrow and objective worn out pleas from Mikey that Coker is awesome just becuase he is fast. This is not a knock on Coker. From what I have seen of him this season he has looked great. He played against two inferior opponents and only has 19 carries so it is not a lot of evidence to go on. But, it looks very promising and I am happy for him because they said he has matured a lot and worked very hard since last season.

Um...so your argument is...He looks great, but Mikey's stupid for saying he looks great. I never said he's the best RB because he's fast. I said if continues to run hard between the tackles (like he has) and he continues to hold on to the ball (like he has) combined with the speed, I think he's the best one up there. I agree that being at practice everyday makes a huge difference. That's why several years ago when everyone was clamouring for Brandon Stewart to be the starting QB (because he looked like the second coming of Heath Shuler and that's what everyone was used to at that time) I told people "Trust them. If Manning is their guy, there's a reason." People have no idea how much of a difference it makes when you see guys day in, day out at practice. I'm not sure why you focus so much on the fact that I said he was fast. Yes, I harped on that before anybody saw him run because no one seemed to believe how fast he is, but now I'm saying that I don't see what Hardesty brings to the game that he doesn't, other than a change of pace. Coker's not just fast, he's a fast RB. If you want to talk about narrow minded and not understanding, let's talk about your obsession with the comparison to Leonard Scott. Scott WAS a track guy trying to play football. Coker was a football player running a little track. He hasn't even run track since his junior year in high school. Oh, and by the way, the coaches, who see him at practice everyday, are starting him on Saturday. As far as my profession goes...I'm a high school football coach at a school you've heard of (assuming you are in TN.)
P.S. This post is in response to Rick's narrow-minded obsession with focusing on a comparison between a true track guy and a fast football player and the fact that Mikey knows nothing even though he has no idea who Mikey is or what Mikey does for a living and that he, Rick, is the master of all football knowledge.

Scout.com Had Coker The 35th Player In The Nation...hardesty Not In The Top 100. The Only Player In That #1 Recruiting Class Ranked Higher Was Morley.

Hardesty was not ranked as highly as Coker, but the reason you didnt find him on the RB list is because he was listed as an ATH.
So they didn't just see Coker as a fast athlete then...they saw him as a fast RB and Hardesty as just an athlete...hmmm. Sounds like what I said.
