Lamonte Turner out for the season

Like the optimism ,but in the time it takes for everyone to adjust to new roles and positions you could be on a 4 game losing streak like has already been seen by some good teams this season who lost key players. We were barely a tourney team with an injured Turner. without him we're NIT at best.
ok...I respectfully disagree with the unprecedented amount of parity with this season's field

Both of these conditions are absolutely horrific, filled with severe pain and complicated prognosis. Turner was a beast for even being able to compete for as long as he did, but this situation has stripped him of the chance to be a star, for this year anyway. I think he would tell you how severely it affected him physically and emotionally, if he wanted to tell the whole story.

I guarantee it. My son has lived with CRPS/RSD since he was 15 (he’s 23 now) and the emotional toll it took on him was horrible and is still rough at times. He went through a multidisciplinary program at the Cleveland Clinic and then another year of PT and 2 more years of counseling after that. You are so right - most don’t even know a fraction of what LaMonté is dealing with.

I think this has been in the works for a while and Barnes was slightly caught off guard in regards to the timing. No big deal. As for the team, we just lost our starting QB for the season (and perhaps best on ball defender). He may have really struggled this season, like Peyton in his final season with Denver, but at least you know he can still run the offense. I don’t know if we have that person to replace him and it maybe a real struggle from here on. Can you imagine when we play a really good high press team how this is gonna look? Hopefully, Barnes still has that magic and can figure a way to win without a real point guard.

Not saying that Turner leaving is a good thing for this season, but now instead of JJJ working at PG as a part-time alternative it can now be the primary attack and be focused on 100% of the time preparing for games.

I know Turner delivered the dagger a couple of times against Big Blue, and most recently vs VCU. Are there any others?? Thank you LT.......VFL.

Better off. Sorry. Have to laugh every time I see this. Took Bone 3 years to learn the PG position here and he's playing in the NBA. So JJJ just needs another month and we're good.

Yea, I don’t think some people understand Tennessee’s offense.

Not to mention playing point at a high level, while still growing as a defender.......isn’t easy.......especially given Tennessee doesn’t have a true point guard on the team (which is eligible).......and no one but Turner has done it for more than a few minutes at a time this season.

Man, so sorry for your son and dealing with that. Most don't have any idea what this is and how it affects the body and mind.

Seriously? Have you seen how many assists he is averaging? This basically just took away at least 14 ppg ( was avg. 7 assists ). In addition he was the leader of this team. This is a huge loss and will have a major impact on this season.
I agree with the assist to a point. Take a look at which games he had the most assist against Murray State, JSU, Chatt which he combined for over 35 in those 3 games. Then look at the Cincy, Memphis and FSU games I think he had less than 9 combined and we lost all 3 of those games. His best games was Washington and VCU without a doubt. But he has been inconsistent all season and I’m sure a lot has to do with him being hurt. Which him the best of luck and the team going forward.

He had all those turnovers because he is the only one who could handle the ball and he plays 40 minutes. Now we have no primary ballhandler. You are crazy if you think this doesn't effect this team. James is not a point guard at all. He is too slow and shaky with the ball. Gaines is your best hope of the current guys.
I agree with you to a point. He will be missed defensively no doubt. But I think his inconsistent play all season can be over come. If we can cut down our turnovers and slow the game down I think we will be just fine. And who knows Gains and James May shock us all now that they will be playing more minutes.

If the ball is constantly in your hands you are gonna have turnovers. In this unique circumstance of having one point guard that plays nearly 40 minutes a game 4 is not bad at all.
I wish he would have had the surgery at the beginning of the year and rehabbed all season and came back healthy for another year and he would have been able to make a stronger case for the next level rather it’s NBA, G/D League or overseas.

James is not slow. Gaines is very shaky bringing the ball up.

They only figured out what he had two weeks ago (according to LT in the post game interview).

Thank you so much. Those who don’t live with chronic pain don’t understand what it does to a person. It’s not “run-of-the-mill everyday aches and pains.” Glad LaMonté has a great support system and I’m sure he has a great medical team, as did my son.

This is correct. He went to see a specialist in St. Louis and he found out then what was going on. Had a shot a day or two before the Memphis game and it has yet to help. Hope he gets well soon and continue on with his career.

Wonder that myself , I wouldn't think it's because of the recruiting class we have coming up ..... Maybe he was just tired of playing ... Head scratcher for sure

Because he redshirted as a freshman due to an issue with his admission to school.
