Lamonte Turner out for the season

Could he not get a medical redshirt tho ??

It’s not guaranteed. Both redshirt years must be “beyond their control.” I’m not sure of the exact reason he got a redshirt his first year, but it is not something that the NCAA will automatically grant.

In “rookie” basketball terms Turner is an old man. I’m confident he wants to play somewhere, somehow at the next level. He can’t afford to have surgery, rehab, hope is all works out, play at Tennessee another year, and then try to “start” his professional career.

He wants to get things going now, in order to give him the opportunity to play somewhere next season. Don’t get me wrong....I’m not even suggesting he is going to the NBA, but he can certainly play in Europe or somewhere overseas, and maybe, possibly gain a normal G league contract (not a two way).

If his dream/goal is to play professionally then he is certainly making the right choice......just because of his age.......5th year senior....one more year would make it much harder.......and just by playing the remainder of this year might cost him another year.....via surgery, rehab and practice.......not mention it would be much harder for him to get any contract when he is not ready physically.

Exactly, there is money to be made in basketball overseas. Six figure contracts everywhere. A healthy Turner can dip into that pot easily. Turner in his current state is only making money as a high school coach.

I've wondered if he had made up his mind to leave a couple of games ago but didn't want to do it after a loss. He had an outstanding finale. The assists were spectacular. AND it was a W.
I have another theory. I think he wanted to give Barnes his 700th win and wait until Vescovi arrived. I wish he could have helped him along like he did James but the new kid has some experience against older players and plays with a lot of confidence already, so it may not be needed as much.

Very unlikely considering he played much of this year already, and he’s already redshirted. Also, Turner May have some sore feelings for being road like a rented mule while he wasn’t healthy. Plus, it sounds like UTs specialist couldn’t find their butt with both hands. He goes to a specialist on his own and they diagnose the issue.

Without Turner I think we’re at bubble team at best. Going to be interesting what our lineup will look like and how some of these freshmen might improve.

He's played 1 too many games to qualify for a medical hardship waiver. 31 games x 30% = 9.3 games which is rounded UP to 10. LT has played in 11 games. Also, the 5-year clock runs out after this season. AND he took a regular, non-medical, redshirt as a true freshman because of the NCAA ****ing around with his admission qualifications (maybe he was collateral damage since Donnie Tyndall was nailed for cheating in this area).

You got a link for this? Sounded to me like UT helped him with specialists more than once, sounds like another agenda based post from Roust.

Anyone who suggests we’re better off without LT vs playing with an injured LT simply don’t know what they’re suggesting and the full extent of the contributions LT made besides shooting the ball. We are going to struggle, make no mistake about it. Hopefully CRB can figure out a combination and pace that will get us into the NCAA tourney

I'd rather have LT, but since we don't, I'm thinking we will make the most of it, and find some answers. Will it be too late? I'm not sure, but I'm all in supporting this team.
