Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Just in general. How bad is Florida right now and how good is New York? Just your opinion because you are good at diving into the data.

I’m also curious if herd immunity is playing into NY better numbers.

These are general reads/opinions because I haven’t done a lot of analysis on this but I have looked at it.

If you look back, the case peak in New York nearly coincided with the death peak. While some of this was due to lags in test reporting, I believe it also signals that the case peak likely occurred around March 23-25, well before testing was ramped up. So I think we totally missed the case peak there and any comparisons of total positives is fairly useless.

As for Florida, I think that percent positive will continue to be a useful metric. Once you see that dropping, deaths should begin dropping within two weeks. At this point, depending on how much lag they have in getting test results back, I think daily deaths could increase 50% - 100% from here - but if percent positive plateaus here, then I hope that’s it.

We are keeping a much better eye on this now with better testing and people get a sense when their is riding risk/danger and generally act accordingly. While not en masse, it will help move the numbers.

The percent positive in Florida will remain useless until they fix all the labs and hospitals that aren't reporting their negatives.

No, dude, the pandemic is costing people their livelihood. When the pandemic is over, people can regain their livelihood. When people die during the pandemic, not so much.

Money comes and goes. Jobs and businesses come and go. People are more important than stuff. And that is what this all boils down to.
Yes the tons of people who will become homeless because of this should have no worry. The tons of people who won’t be able to feed their kids. The tons of kids whose only balanced meal comes from school. The tons of children who are more at risk to sexual and physical abuse are all less important. Pull your head out of your ass. Deaths of old people is sad. Long term effects of locking this down are far worse.

Always remember it was about stopping a huge wave that crashed our system. It was never about preventing deaths afterwards

This is a bizarre statement. If there are in fact, "tons" of children who live in households where they are being abused, then they will still be abused whether school is in session or not. Unfortunately, the abuse of children doesn't just take place between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm Monday thru Friday.

Also, it isn't just "old people" who are dying from the Coronavirus, and it isn't just "old people" who are at risk of contracting it in schools that are open. There are staffing considerations to think about. Adult teachers can spread the disease to each other, and good luck finding substitutes right now. They are going to be hard to come by.

He’s never worn a mask at Walter Reed before. It’s not like they cruise by critically ill patients. He wore the mask at Ford bc he was told he wouldn’t be allowed in the facility if he didn’t.

Ummm, you do know that as a hospital Walter Reed requires a face mask for everyone to enter there, right?

Why on earth would anyone expect the President to not honor the hospital protocols that are in place?

All he has to do is not sign it. But he didn’t. Quit blaming congress and giving him a pass

Sigh, folks seem to forget this...Congress can override a Presidential veto by passing the act by a two-thirds vote in both the House and the Senate. (Usually an act is passed with a simple majority.) This check prevents the President from blocking an act when significant support for it exists.

I have Florida friends checking into this craziness. I pulled the raw data from the state website, and the above information is real. Many labs and hospitals (including the two I trained at) are reporting 90-100% positivity rate. One of the outlying hospitals near Fort Myers, Lee Memorial, has reported 405 positive, zero negative.

Somebody should send in swabs of paw-paw fruit and goats for testing.🤷‍♀️

No and I don't seek it out either.
I just got my blood drawn for my titres for my new job in ICU in Richmond. Guess what they didn't require? 😳
I don't understand how you can consider yourself presumed positive and have never taken the test. Basically you diagnosed yourself. If access to testing is still a problem, just say so.
