FFS...how are you actually a doctor?
Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control. This recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth.
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
FFS, can you read?
... for the most part, they do. It's when people board airplanes and refuse to put a mask on, or they go shopping at a private business, where it is not left up to the individual. There are literally dozens of videos on YouTube right now of idiots either being kicked off of flights or refused service in a store, for not putting a mask on. Yeah Karen, you have the right to not wear a mask... and that flight attendant has the right to call the police and have you escorted off the plane.People should have the freedom to choose
Since you brought up the issue of literacy, the topic of discussion was whether a cloth mask protects the wearer.Doc, I know you've probably been out of med school for awhile, but if you decrease the primary source of the spread of the disease, water droplets from the mouth and nose being sprayed out during respiration and vocalization, what happens to the likelihood that the disease continues to spread?
If everybody in a room is wearing a mask, and one of them is infected, what's the likelihood of the disease spreading, vs the same group of people in a room without masks?
Not a HC fan by any means, but I doubt she would have disbanded the Pandemic response team. This virus has run a 6-8 week peak everywhere it has been. The one in the southeast began two or 3 weeks ago, right? The numbers are likely to calm down by the time the season starts.
It will likely fade as an issue after the election. The virus itself is not a political invention. But various factions are keeping it hyped up hoping to use it politically.
If HC had won the presidency NONE of this panic would have been created by the media. She could have done the exact same things or less and would have been branded a "hero". The virus is REAL. The narrative... is propaganda.

I suppose I do. It's common sense. If someone's sneeze doesn't land in my mouth because I'm wearing a mask, it's less likely I will have their snot in my mouth,
Well, there you have it. Stew Cook has disproven Science.
Lol...I gave you a literal picture of the rally, and you still want to deny reality. Do you need a picture of Herman Cain at the Tulsa rally?
You yourself, may wear a mask, but the party that you belong to has been and still is, if this forum is a any indication, very vocally against doing so, even after Trump came out and "wear a mask".
Are you (intentionally) forgetting what you typed?
You're response was:
What he wrote is 100% true, and the point of wearing a mask, to limit the primary mode of transmission, which is water droplets from respiration and vocalization.
"Our study establishes very clearly that using a face mask is not only useful to prevent infected coughing droplets from reaching uninfected persons, but is also crucial for these uninfected persons to avoid breathing the minute atmospheric particles (aerosols) that infected people emit when talking and that can remain in the atmosphere tens of minutes and can travel tens of feet"
Face masks critical in preventing spread of COVID-19: Study found that wearing a face mask stopped person-to-person spread of the virus
It’s first important to understand the concept of source control. We’ve learned that as many as 40% of people infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 may have no symptoms. But when they talk, cough or sneeze, they can still spread the virus to others in the form of respiratory droplets expelled into the air. Those droplets evaporate into fine particles that may linger. The mask traps these larger droplets before they can evaporate.
Many people argue that cloth masks can’t be effective because they can’t filter out viral particles, which are extremely tiny. But, as Larry explained, most of these particles leave the mouth and nose in much larger droplets that become smaller through evaporation as they move away from the body. Trapping droplets with the mask means not nearly as many viral particles escape. So, when all parties in a gathering are wearing well-constructed, well-fitting masks, it provides an extra layer of safety for everyone. If two people are wearing masks, the viral particles can travel about 5 feet away from each individual. When an infected person is not wearing a mask, those particles can float through the air 30 feet or more and stay alive for up to 30 hours.

If you need a visual aid:
You want me to show you a picture from Seattle, Portland or Denver showing protesters not wearing masks and then say that they're liberals so it must be a Democrat thing?
I’m guessing not quite to this level though. Maybe I’m wrong but this seems way more restrictive than the norm. If you have knowledge of the language in a typical agreement vs this one I’m all ears. That's not ironic. In any given season they are told what they can and can't do hundreds of times, by coaches, refs, other players, GMs, and they agree to all of it. Those things aren't connected at all.
Were any of those protestors at the Tulsa rally? If not, I fail to see how it's relevant to the discussion about the likelihood of Herman Cain being infected at a near-maskless rally that also saw 8 of the president's campaign staff infected, along with a noticeable jump in cases in Tulsa.
What a mindset. Smh. Yes, it is worse. He didn't have dementia. Presumably, Cain was like most people and wanted to live as long as possible. I doubt that his family is as cavalier about his death as you are. Maybe you don't intend it to appear this way, but your attitude comes across as "He was already old (74 - the same age as Trump, by the way) and not in good health anyway, so screw him."Who cares..... he was 74 years old with most of his colon and liver missing.... is he him dying now worse than surviving a few years and dying with dementia, contractures, and bed sores like so many of our elderly do...... No one should make a choice based off another’s decision.... that is extremely weak minded.
And the great dr flip flop dies the stupid dance yet again
Dr. Fauci recommends wearing goggles, face shields in addition to masks | WKBN.com
That's an inaccurate article. "Aerosols" are much smaller than the filtration capability of cloth masks. This is exactly why N95s and respirators were invented and used by those at risk of inhaling viral particles and their associated aerosolized droplets, which have evaporated to much smaller diameters as they travel from the expeller.
In addition, there is little to no data demonstrating the safety of wearing a cloth mask to the wearer. The constant touching/wiping/adjusting of the mask absolutely has the potential to increase risk of infection. If you don't believe me, come spend a day in the office with me and observe.
I know this may cause some to challenge their preconceived beliefs, but it will take critical thinking to emerge from this crisis.
