We're not lacking a track record on it. Your comparison to a newly developed vaccine is ridiculous. Many doctors have made the rounds in the past few months vouching for its safety, claiming to have been using it for decades to treat Lupus. If it wasn't safe longterm, FDA would have pulled it by now.

Yeah, that's the one. The jury's out on whether it's an effective treatment but long term effects have to do with the folks who've been taking it for yrs

For me:

(1) I'm not at risk;
(2) When doctors estimate a "12-18 month" timeline for vaccine development, yet a known liar to the nth degree (Trump) says it'll be done in 6-9 months ("before the election"), there's no way on God's green earth that I would actually stick something that rushed in my body; and
(3) If, God forbid, Moderna or some other tax-money-sucking vaccine developer (a company btw with exactly ZERO current products) actually says they got a vaccine prior to the election, you know it's bogus.

Maybe it would be easier if you showed me where you disagreed with the Sweden comparison. That's why I brought it up. Or you could just say right now the comparison is "unfair" and the inferences about ones economy from the comparison is also unfair.

Nobody wants to lose anyone, but nobody gets out of this thing called life alive. The longer we stay shut down the longer its going to take to recover. Its beyond ridiculous at this point.

I don't disagree, but minimizing the seriousness of the pandemic defies common sense. We've kept the deaths to "only 160K" to date BECAUSE we've taken it seriously... or at least some people have.

What about the millions living that have lost their jobs that won't come back for years, if ever? What about those affected by relapse? What about those who kill themselves? Yes 200k deaths isn't a good thing, but we are talking millions of living lives being affected. Our children are the ones at the bottom of the totem pole getting laid off and furloughed, bur what about their future?

I think we should wait to see if the numbers end up better or worse. At the current time they are worse.

Trump has no power over the FDA. Their stance on HCQ shows that. If they approve a vaccine before 12-18 months it won't be because of Trump. My guess is other countries such as the Brits will also come out with a vaccine at about this same time.
