Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I usually think this kind of thing is stupid but this sort of interaction with the elderly is very important especially to those starting to show signs of dementia.... it is to risky to have any more type of contact in these type of facilities.
They can't sit outside spaced apart? Wear a mask? I would take fresh air and no barriers vs. some bubble boy hug that makes you both feel like lepers.
I am glad my grandma didn't live to see this. My aunt visited her every day in the nursing home. She would have died alone with no one to see her. My aunt said if she was still alive she would have waylaid the ambulance on the way to dialysis and taken her home.

If there are reputable epidemiologists out there--as opposed to a start up's CEO--saying that NYC or Stockholm have reached herd immunity, let me know.

This one came out a few days ago:

SAGE Journals: Your gateway to world-class research journals
Here's his undergrad:
University of California, Berkeley
Degree NameBS
Field Of StudyBioengineering
Activities and Societies: Alpha Chi Sigma

Minor in Chemical Engineering. Independent research project on chemical thermodynamics, recombinant DNA, and protein technology. Worked for three summers at Genentech.

So mayyyyyyyyyyybe he has an inkling about what he's talking about?

His MBA is from Harvard fwiw.

I'm not saying he's not smart (he is) or that he's not stringing together published studies/stats (that's what he's relying on for his basic premises). What he's doing that's objectionable is making an inferential leap from what that data shows to the conclusion that herd immunity can be and has been obtained with what are very low infection rates. I don't know anyone out there claiming herd immunity can be reached at such a low percentage of infection.

Lol he hates positive news, maybe his husband left

It's nice to to know that I have rent-free space in your heads for when I need it. Though you might want to tone down the homophobia next time; just a suggestion.

With the way this illness has ravaged SNF and ALF..... they don’t feel we can risk it..... plus some families are nuts..... we have had families trying to break into our facility and we have had families talk staff into opening windows and reaching in our trying to climb in the windows.

Several studies suggest it may be possible. They are posted in this thread. Like I said we shall wait and see. It’s new virus. No one knows what it’s going to do. To just discount their approach is stupid. There whole goal was to be prepared for round two. Which is what screwed most countries during the Spanish flu.

Listen, I agree that nobody knows anything with certainty about the future of this virus. However, there is a ton of data and research that suggests herd immunity is being reached at a much lower infection rate than initially predicted, likely due to a background level of protection which we have discussed ad nauseum.

Leaving politics completely aside, we should all hope and pray this is true. It really is the only thing that explains a number of interesting trends and curiosities:
- why are children relatively spared?
- why does Sweden appear to be through the storm?
- why does NYC look like they are, too?
- why is there such incomplete penetrance within families/close contacts?
- why are so many regions seeing the same downward curve, once a particular infection rate is achieved?

I wish everyone could step back, think, and realize that IN THIS BATTLE, we are all on the same side. Does anyone not want business to resume, our kids to be educated and play sports, those suffering from mental health problems to get some relief, and the elderly to stop dying? Oh, and maybe some Big Orange football and basketball?

How many grandmas are you willing to sacrifice for your precious football sports match?

I have first hand experience with NYC. Almost everybody is wearing a mask. No indoor dining. No bars. No clubs. No museums. No libraries. No indoor anything really. Any meet up with friends is done outdoors with distancing and face coverings. Everyone who can is working from home. We do no indoor playdates for our kids, who have been at home since early March. Almost all white collar workers have been working from home since around the same time. I personally haven't ridden the subway since late February. And I'm not unique in any of these respects.

I'd love it to be the case that we've achieved herd immunity. But I really think it's going to heat back up once kids go back to school and some people have to start going back to their offices.

Just to be honest with you .. if the two were drowning , there was only one small float between them , it was only big enough to save one , and someone was forcing me to make a decision between them ... I’d shoot a hole in the float . Which one did you say you were again ?
Lol

I know those people are immune but what about the constant protests going on in New York.... that definitely does not look like proper social distancing or consistent mask wearing. Have they fixed the subway cars where they had essential workers packed in like sardines?

Can't imagine after waiting for initial test results that a huge percentage would still test positive after 10 days
I mentioned in here before the CDC ever came out with this stance.... when we have a positive test at my building we transfer that patient to covid patient.... we had approximately 7 residents test positive and sent to the covid unit( a building set up for covid) all but one of them tested positive for two months in a row.... they had to receive two negative tests before they could come back... finally all of them came back.... Everypne gets tested weekly in my building.... two weeks later one of the residents that came back tested positive again and was sent back to the unit..... she hadn’t been around a single positive case bc everyone that comes in my building is tested.

CDC Director Robert Redfield said in an interview Wednesday with WebMD that if Americans don't follow public health guidance, the country could be facing "the worst fall, from a public health perspective, we've ever had."
"We're going to have COVID in the fall, and we're going to have flu in the fall," he told John Whyte, chief medical officer at WebMD.

Directly contradicting the CDC's assessment of the status of CV-19 ain't too bright on Travis' part. I sure as hell wouldn't be putting my ass out into the legal liability breeze, but hey, to each his own...

The CDC has been so spot on through all of this.

Why do you need to be an epidemiologist to read a graph? I don't get this tribalism that otherwise intelligent people aren't allowed to read and discuss data from a discipline they don't have a degree in.
Its because to the left if you don't have a degree in something you aren't considered an expert and are obviously too stupid to understand what's going on. That's why they act like lemmings and live sh!t lives. They are unable to think outside of their rainbow box and MUST have someone else hold their hands like children for all decisions.
