"Almost 800,000 people around the world have already died from COVID-19, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University and Microsoft MSFT, 0.72% co-founder Bill Gates predicts that “the worst is still ahead” and the death toll will ultimately rise by millions.

Emerging markets, where health-care systems and economies are already struggling, is where the pain will be most pronounced, he explained in a recent interview in the Economist.

But the U.S. is dealing with its own unique set of issues, as politics and conspiracy theories have contributed to what he said has been a disappointing response. Why? In the name of freedom.

‘We believe in freedom, individual freedom. We optimize for individual rights.’

According to Gates, Trump supporters have wielded “freedom” to make a political statement that continues to complicate the U.S. response to the pandemic. Refusing to wear a mask, for instance, is one way for them to signal their anger and resistance.

Doesnt Gates need to STFU? He ain't no doctor, why we listening to this computer nerd? We need doctors, or at least someone who has pretended to be a doctor. Is Hugh Laurie available?

I was unaware Cuomo was portrayed as doing a good job. In fact, I thought it was almost universal panning of what he did and the deaths his policies caused

DNC put him on the agenda where he talked about his "success" and he has a book coming out about his "success" (and Trump's "failure") just before the election.

When their numbers were down around zero it was talked about what a good job he did. It's all that Dem on Dem patting of the back that probably made him think it's ok to do a book.

It's kinda crazy. They are definitely on the downside of the curve but their curve overall was unequalled (except by NJ and Mass). Doubtful any state will surpass NY for total deaths, FL (a larger state) is at about 30% of the total deaths of NY.

The media should be absolutely ashamed of themselves if they have a conscious. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the history books. I do not know if it is just my circle, but everyone I have been around for the last month is absolutely done with this crap. Intelligent people that hunkered down are coming out of their bunkers and realizing they were duped.

I remember that feeling in April. My company closed for about 8 business days in March/April.

Then we just said to heck with it and all came back to work. I think people were a little anxious that first week back. All the anxiety had evaporated by the end of the second week back.
